Is this image indicating that I'm leaking oil through the rear main seal? Why is there oil on the gearbox as well, further away from the engine? As it is, I'm not losing any oil, based on the dipstick. Is this the gearbox oil?

    3 possible scenarios >>>

    1. Exhaust cam covers weeping - pretty normal - weeps down around sump/bell housing.

    2. Rear main - possibly weeping! And it blows back onto gearbox whilst driving, but pic indicates #1 more likely problem.

    3. Speed Sensor weeping on gearbox - I'd put money on it! Replace o-ring,

Maybe combination of all 3 ... I've seen worse.

Can't give you much more Eric ... up to you to investigate what's leaking. Easier done from underneath on hoist, but try examining rear of exhaust cam covers from above.

    I mean..

I dont know about the exhaust cam cover or the speed sensor thingie. I do know about rear main seal though. How much/how many hours are we looking at for the exhaust cam or the speed sensor fix?

BTW, the bypass hoses can be reached without taking radiator out, only the big fan and the shroud.

    Cheers.

Exhaust cam cover leak is plenum pull job to fix >>>

... properly. Most weep, mine included, so it's a 'rainy day' job.

Speed sensor is easy, new O-ring or sealant will fix. Easy if car on a hoist... 20 min job, but can be done on jacks.

My money is on option 3 and also a leaking sump plug.

Is that fresh oil and dripping because it looks like a very slow

    weep.

If there wasnt a little pool of oil on the garage floor the morning after, then I wouldnt worry too much about it.;)

The problem with rear crankshaft oil seal is they wear a grove in the journal and when you fit a new seal it often fails before time because the groove stuffs the new seal.:(
Generally speaking you should grind the groove out but you will get away with it for a while.

Gearbox front seal is another possibility so if youre not seeing a drop in oil levels on the dipstick of the engine then it may be the g/box or as I said the leak is minimal and why worry.

When you get old and a bit worn you'll leak a bit too and nobody will care!:LOL:

    regards John:cool:
