    ZXxx Getting Stiggy wid it!

    Morning everyone,

Was on my way to work today. Whilst sitting in some massive peak hour traffic jam my car just decided to turn off on me.....like I had stalled it. things happened so suddenly I didn't get a chance to see the rev's before she died but I definitely didn't hear any erratic idle before hand.

Chucked her into park and engaged the handbrake, started her again and voila....she starts perfectly first time off the bat. Idle sitting nicely, rev's fine, drives fine. No gearing issues from what I could feel or hear (she's an automatic so you have to do your best to judge) and I drove the rest of the way to work (about 10km) without issue.

Let her idle for about 5 minutes at work and she didn't miss a beat.

Any Thoughts? I initially thought maybe battery/alternator, but that problem would have surely continued. I'll check the connections after work but I don't think that would be the problem.

    Cheers

    Paul

May be worth doing a Boost leak test.

I had a similar problem. Mine would sometimes stall when braking quickly ie, "at the lights" and it turned out to be boost leaks.Mines also an auto with SAW kit.

It can still have leaks in the air system that can cause this, i would also check CAS connector

Looks like I might actually be going to the next tech day afterall!

Hmmm, don't think so. For a leak to stall the engine on idle it'd be pretty significant, and if you did manage to get it started again it would stall again under load.

No, it would be electrical related...but unless it starts happening regularly I'd not worry about it...it'd be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Also, it may quite possibly be a contaminent in your fuel, or something similar.

I was thining about the fuel earlier this morning. I'm due for a refil this arvo, so it could have been a bad batch. Could also be fuel pump related i guess.

If it starts happening regularly with a new batch of fuel then be concerned. Something obviously caused it, but it's anyones guess really.

You could try wriggling some connectors such as CAS plug and AFM plug to see if it repeats the stall, but I'd honestly just leave it.

i've noticed that when i'm running low on fuel it doesn't run as smoothly, i've put it down to dirt in fuel tank and try my best not to let it get too low on fuel

Be careful with that, on my last car I copped some dirty fuel and it got difficult to start. The fuel filter blocked up eventually and caused the fuel pump to burn out.
And yes I kicked myself for ignoring the problem, all I had to do was change the filter at least, and maybe get the tank drained/flushed.:(

not saying this is definitely it, but check the water in your battery.
with the hot weather we've had recently etc., its just a good thing to check anyway.
    cheers
