The creator and patent holder of "the clear wheel" Doug McGoon and Forgiato have combined to turn this idea into a real drivable wheel. In 2006 we proudly produced and introduced "The Clear Wheel" called Radurra for cars and motorcycles. Again we return to our roots of jewellery manufacturing. A technique known as bezel setting which only master diamond setters can know, is where the diamonds are just slightly larger than the bezel they are set into, and held in place by pressure. Understanding this, we put the same care and consideration towards the Radurra as we would towards a fine watch. By eliminating the alloy centre of a three piece forged wheel and setting into its place a hard coated polycarbonate centre with a glass-like finish we achieve an amazing and stunning look, with a finished product that looks too good to be a wheel. Much the same way the diamond is set into a bezel setting, the polycarbonate centre is set into the forged aluminium hoops with precision machining and a jeweller's touch... the end result is a wheel that is strong, safe and beautiful. Now show off your high performance brakes and suspension on your high-end car or motorcycle. The same way you would add diamonds to your platinum watch, add the Radurra to your "platinum" car or custom chopper. With a vast range of colour and finish options, your Radurra is sure to be as individual as yourself or your clientele. (More sizes available soon) Technical Data The centre is 1.5 or 2" polycarbonate, chemical hard coated both sides. Weight 20" - 27 lbs, and 22" - 38 lbs (complete wheel weight) All other parts of the wheel are forged 6061t aluminium (Inner and outer hoops and Hub centre) SAE tested, certified and passed Impact, cornering and radial tests. Not bad but.... Doesnt really allow for much air flow to the calipers/discs. I can see a bit of heat build up.
One thing to consider would be the difference in expansion rates of clear polycarbonate and aluminium. Then again, I guess the show ponies that wear these rims would never really get on a track and heat them up til they fail.
