Hey guys ive got a small leak (pin size) hole im guessing from the 5th row of the fins i believe. i can see small droplets of fluided every 30sec ish Do you know if this can be fixed and if so what and how? I'm going to ring the radiator mob and ask them if they can fix the fins (if thats what its called. please correct me if im wrong). Otherwise i will need a new radiator quick smart! Cheers for your help. Yama
Radiator - New If you need to replace your radiator; http://shop.ebay.com.au/i.html?rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=1&_nkw=300zx%20radiator&_dmpt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&_fln=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m283 Good luck mate!
Depending on where exactly the leak is, you might be able to get away with using some of the chem-i-weld stuff, putty like gear that you kneed and mix and then squish it into place and sets hard.
The oem radiator can be rebuilt with a new core, but this means re-using the existing (worn and brittle) end tanks. you would be better off doing both at once (ie new nissan OEM radiator). Cost then can come prohibitive, where an aftermarket or ebay radiator will perform just as well and be cheaper. Oh, and don't just get the thickest one you can get, thick cores do not equal cooling ability. Airflow thru the core equals cooling ability.
Radiator I have a near new radiator from a '92 2+2 here on the Sunshine Coast if you require it. Cheers Jack
if its got a small pin leak. I would say that it is likely pitted in a few other spots internally which havent broken through yet. I would put a new radiator in mate.
Yeah i might have to bit the bullet and buy a new one soon! well its stop leaking for now with the quick fix of the radiator leak stopper but yeah i think i need a new one! cheers guys
Don't put any internal stopper in the cooling system Johny. Increases your chances of gunking up the galleries in the block etc. If you go down the 'plugging holes' path, use the external stuff only.
I had a leak in one of the rows of my ASI rad within 24 hours of installing it, I took it to a radiator shop and they welded it up for me, hasn't leaked since! is now over a year later.
John, contact Mt Gravatt Radiators in Kessells Rd, Macgregor. They will clean up and rod the core and put new end tanks on, pressure test and paint in black all for sub $200 (2010 price quote). I've done several thru them over the years. They also have a local pickup/delivery service but you might be a bit far out at Thornlands.
Just get a new one not worth the hassle trying to patch up will only let you down. and cause much pain and frustration in the middle of noware as luck will usually have it.
Yeah alot of good info here, I used to work at NATRAD and can tell you that more often that not, if we were given a radiator for repair, we would pressure test under water, find any leaks, then take top and bottom tanks off and check the tube flow. Then we clean tubes, put tanks back on with new O-Rings and retest under water for bubbles. Nearly every time, a clean would open up the issues that a radiator was very close to having, and we would find over 10 little pinholes start leaking, just because the gunk blocking these holes was removed. Unless the hole is in a new core, and caused by stone/debris, I would recommend a new core and preferably tanks. Also can recommend strongly against the additive to stop leaks, as this will sure stop leaks, but last one I saw also stopped flow to 80 of the tubes running through the core... Bad Move to use this stuff. If you are looking the cheap option.. 2nd hand for sure. Good Luck Adam
