Hey guys so I'm here on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck and could do with some assistance.

It happened for the first time yesterday as I'm driving along the engine just suddenly dies. No noise whine etc just the revs drop and now it won't fire

I've had the rac mobile mechanic people out and he pulled out an ignition coil pack linked up a spark plug and it got no spark hence I'm thinking it's my ptu?it's a series one ptu 89 tt

What do u guys think? Am I on the right track?

Symptoms of a fail series 1 PTU. Simple enough to swap it out for a series 2.

Do an ECU diagnostic to be sure but the most likely culprit for no-spark is the PTU.

Get a series 2 PTU and be rid of the problem in the future. Contact members Heavytrevy or Vader who offer 2nd hand Series 2 PTUs with wiring plugs for a fraction of the cost of new.

as mentioned, most likely the PTU.

Mine did exactly the same thing some months ago. Although after about 5 mins. after waiting for it to cool down, it started again. Did it 4 times over 2 days, so I swapped over an old Series 1 PTU that I had out my old zed, and problem gone. But I did buy a new Series 2 PTU and put that in, so problem no more.
