    Howdy all (again)

for those that haven't read my previous posts about my poor PTU issues here is a summary and hopefully the final question/s on the matter.

    1. I removed my plenum to paint and install SS braided hoses etc...
    2. Car ran like a charm before.. never had a mechanical problem with it..
    3. I have had the plenum off heaps of times and done all the usual bypasses etc...
    4. After painting, re-fitted plenum and ancillary bits..
    5. Car wouldn't fire-up, cranking ok, no spark..
    6. Thought it might be S2 PTU connections etc.. so did all the checks no avail
    7. Fit my original S1 PTU... car fires up like a charm. Take for test runs..
    8. Go for a nice long drive... after not driving it for ages had withdrawals.. it was great..
    9. 30min into drive car just dies.... no spark error 21 again.
    10. Car gets towed home...
    11. No spark again.. thinking, could this be a dead S1 PTU as well?...
    12. Test all connections as suggested by members here. All seem fine.
    13. Take my S2 PTU to Marklars house.. and fit.. DEAD. DEAD... DEAD would not fire up his car either.. and his S2 works fine.
    14. Remove plenum again, check all connections etc, have found 2 ground wires off.

    Question...
Could having two earth wires at the back of plenum disconnected cause the
S2 and S1 PTU's to fail in any way it is the only thing I can see that was wrong (they have definately failed as checked again Marklars car).

Anyone have experience of anything else that could have killed both the PTU's suddenly

    Thanks in advance...

    2 ground wires

One earths the fuel rail/fuel temp sensor, the other earths the plenum. I can't imagine either causing the PTU to fail but anything's possible.

    I wouldn't have thought so either..but

am now clutching at straws.. I really don't want to put another PTU in and have it shit the tin as well...:(

You mean I was on the money with those earth connections? They are easy to forget about. One of the earths has about 5-6 cables running to it. If it was jumping around maybe the constant connecting/disconnecting blew something.

Could have shorted the system and burnt out one of the wires in the PTU as they are very small wires maybe couldn't handle the power of a short

Hey ZMANnyc... Did it kill your PTU,

Thank you to all that have responded to all my posts

about this. It has been a seriously depressing issue thus far not being able to drive my baby. I will take everyones advise onboard and see where it gets me..

ZMANnyc - keep that shit to yourself :p ... If I have to rewire the loom I think I will just break-down (might even weep for a while)....

I have a spare series 1ptu if you need it Back Z.

let me know if you want it and pm your address. I'm not sure what its worth so I'll leave that up to you and whatever you can afford will do, I'm not greedy.Main thing is to get you driving again and much better to test you actually found the problem by connecting it back up with the earth wires connected with a known working series 1 before going with another ptu2. Goodluck with it,kolin
