anyone know of a common element between the ABS and HICAS systems?? On Fri morning b4 Gilgandra I started her up and the Anti-skid and Hicas warning lights illuminated, power steering has been dramatically reduced and ABS is not working.

I'll take a wild stab at it...

...could be a speed sensor malfunctioning. I know that the zed has a speed sensor at each wheel for the ABS, but Im not sure if they are the same sensors that the power steering relies on. Only other thing I can think of is it may be a blown fuse. If you do a search you may find something, I know this problem has been raised before

it could be a faulty clutch microswitch

I think that is the only commonality between the two systems. You can do an ABS diagnostics by taking the car for a drive over 30km/hr for more than a minute and then read the flashes from the ABS controller. The service manual has the error codes in the Brake section.

cool, is the ABS controller in the mess

behind the driver's seat (in a 2 seater of course :)?? I'm assuming it has an LED on it somewhere.

OK, I found it :) It was simply a fuse. I

didn't have the translation on hand previously, but looked at it today and checked the 'Power Steering Hicas' fuse and that was the culprit. Dunno why the 2 systems are linked in this way, but *shrug*, it's working :)

Hi Kalus, is your power steering completely

gone? or just becoming considerably harder?Because mine is really hard now and gives resistance when cornering, not good, have to fight with my muscle to get it to hold the line.Only thing is I don't have ABS nor HICAS, it's a 91 NA you see.I'll check my fuse tomorrow. But what else can be wrong? It's not squeaking or anything.

it wasn't completely gone, just harder.

About half way between working and not, but definitely noticable :) Check 3rd fuse from left on bottom row, on the cabin fuse box.

    I checked and it's ok

I unplugged them and plugged them back with more force. Don't know if it was loose or not but we'll see.:?) It's only hard after I turn the wheels several degrees and hit a rough spot and then it's ok again. Need to use more strength through that rought spot :`(

you might have a worm steering rack

jack it up and turn the wheels to see if you can feel the notchy part with the engine not running.

a few weeks ago my power steering went reall

y funny, as if there was no power steering at some points. It would turn and not spin back at all even when going at 60k's. Checked the powersteering fluid and it looked fine, but it took about a cup full. Everything is good now.

    what do you mean

by "took a cup full"? I can turn the wheels with the car on the hoist, engine off, tried it before, nothing notchy. But what does it mean supposed if I can feel the notchy part?

you need to print one of these off

and stick it to the back of the fuse lid
