mine has also started having similar issues recently & is also a '90 aus-spec.
I have no 'chime' that you speak off (in forward or reverse) but it sounds very similar to your problem, when travelling at very low speeds the abs will go off.

example, not 30min ago I got home, brakes had been fine the entire drive but as i roll to a stop in the driveway (so slow the speedo's reading zero) the abs fires. I know its the abs because the light comes on & I can feel the brake peddle go nuts under my foot. Can also hear stuff going on from the abs setup in the boot.

has got brake fluid & wheels & tyres have been on for a couple years. I also spent ages back when I got them making sure the rolling diameter would match up.

So anyone know? Is it as simple as cleaning the abs sensors at each wheel or more complicated/expensive than that?

mut be a problem with ausspecs i have the same thing
