How would you go about fixing this? I can get my mate to weld it nice but that won't necessarily prevent it.. Anyone had this before?

Accident damage bodged up by a back-yarder like that would not pass RWC. Suggest seeking professional quote to repair.

I've seen this before. Need to weld it up properly, making sure that all the body measurements are bang-on beforehand. Check the 'body' section of the service manual for all the correct dimensions.

That's bog and paint breaking away there Mitch, perhaps from chassis/panel flexing, but it's prior accident damage as evidenced by compression at joints and seams.

It started as a very minor crack but got that bad from driving on the very stiff springs that came with the car. Il get my mate to weld it up! He is a metal fabricator! :) is there anywhere you can suggest I should reinforce it?

If that is all torn metal (hard to tell from pic) then you have a serious problem that welding will not fix long-term.

You need to locate the real problem which is likely to be damaged chassis or suspension components.
