    Hey everyone.

After replacing the power steering pump which was leaking, now the ****** steering rack is leaking too:zlove:. ....does this always seem the case once you sort one thing out the another thing arrises!

I know the rack was on its way out as passenger side or the rack had been wet and covered in oil...but now the time has come to replace it.

For those of you that have replaced it, was it difficult, anything that i need to know before i embark on replacing the rack....i've read the tech on removal.

Also any ideas of cost to get it rebuilt as i want it to last....or essentially if there is a really low km one let me know.

Anyways im seeking all sorts of advice here so please shout your stories and tips.

If you have the tools I think it would be easier to put the car on stands... engine crane to take the weight of the engine then drop the steering subframe. only held up by like 8 bolts.

Will give you a bucket load more space to work with. But thats if you a crane lying around.

Ive R+R mine a few times, put the front on stands, get a jack with a block of wood under the sump to take the weight off the cross member and then take the rack and crossmember out together.

    its not hard aye,

Bolts to undo: (set each side)
    2 top of shocks, m14
    2 front toe arms, m17 i think
    1 top control arm, m17
2 under the crossmember itself, m17

so 7 each side, and it will just drop straight down. Put the car on stands on the rails, crane to support the engine, jack under the crossmember to take the weight and just lower it down.. very easy. you'll have all the space in the world to take the rack out.

Not in the slightest. undo them from under the rack and they will lift straight out.

I think its the lower arm

not castor or steering ones. I think :p

Will a NA steering subframe fit into a TT ?

    Thanks alot guys :zlove:

You only have to undo the engine mount bolts and the cross member/ chassis rail bolts. That is enough to let the cross member hang low enough to get the rack out.

Steering subframe ???? you mean engine cross member ??

The NA one is different than the TT as it is missing a support bracket for the oil cooler pipes

Im stuck already after taking the wheels off. I can seem to loosen the tie rod end's, they wont budge. Ive takin the pin and the m18 nut...shouldnt it just loosen, been banging away like bam bam with wd40 in the other hand to no prevail.

What pin and Nut? You unscrew the tie rod ends from the rack rod/arm. NOT remove the tie rod ends from the steering hub arms
