ok guys n gals ,,i thought like many my power steering pump was leaking ,,BUT it wasnt,it was the high pressure hose from pump to metal lines under the motor,,so if youve got a power steering leak,b4 u replace your pump,,cut the foam cover off the hi presure line and inpsect that,,mine was leaking slowly, and would empty the resovour, over a week funny thing is when i cut the cover off,it must have been holding 500mls of oil in there:mad:,but as stated was hose not pump,,the hose has a little valve fitted to the middle ,,this is were mine was leaking,,it was spraying oil up all over the pump making it LOOK like it was the pump, and spraying oil under the drivers side of the car,,currently pirtek are making me a new hose will post piccis and how much soon

I had same prob, thought it was pump but High pressure hose and yes, that foam protector holds a lot

Pirteck (My local Tasmanian Pirteck) made me a new hose using my old Banjo fittings cost $74 all up so a pretty good deal.

It sounds like you have found your fix so I hope you don't mind if I highjack this thread with another power steering question.

My PS return hose is leaking and in the Tech section is a fix (cut out old crimp and replace with a screw clamp). The tech section mentions using a 'dremel or similar' to carefully cut away the old return hose crimp.

I don't own a dremel or similar so is there another solution to carefully cutting away the old crimp??

    Cheers, Pete

    Buy a dremel, easiest way

Can you get some sidecutters in there?
There are other cheap and nasty rotary tools out there. But the Dremel is only really good for the small jobs- I burnt mine out when I was doing detail on my plenum polish. Has bugger all torque now, and binds up heaps easy

Interesting that, I've heard a few people say this but of all the rotary tools i've burnt out it's never been the Dremel. Have spent all day cutting up perspex with it, literally burning in my hand and covered in dust and it still runs like new.

I had it on top speed for about 3 hrs straight
Had a nice shiny plenum in the end too.

It still works, but it has real low torque. Probably brushes or armature have been damaged. Its a good, tool, I just don't expect too much from it.
