Chipping service I'm not sure if this is new, but I'm wondering if anyone has ever had their engine problem caused by the ECU? or more specifically modified ECU? That link above says I can get the ECU for $100, which of course is good. And since I don't want to spend too much on new ECU (Hitec $795), is this a good idea? There's not been much info on the actual ECU yet and what it does, only a couple of good feedback but without much specification, so I'd probably wait until they get more good feedback.
Give it a go Eric .... Aaron can burn a copy of your OEM chip so you may swap back at if desired. I'm in AKL next week - see you at Sunday Brekky on 13th?
The risk of possible harm from a chipped ecu is probably minimal..... because most "chippers" only make very slight changes to mapping in order to give the "percieved" power increase. Having said that, it is possible to destroy a motor if the chip has radical AFR/timing map alterations. The PROOF of a good chip is on the dyno, and yet there is no dyno chart provided. Recently a forum member had a "chip" fitted that gave the "feel" of more power but in reality (when placed on a dyno, resulted in less power after 3500rpm) A cheap chip is not cheap if it : a) gains no power b) loses power c) (heaven forbid) costs you a motor Also, what mod level is that chip meant to suit ? (there is no mention of that in his post). This one chips suits all scenario is flawed in its logic. Talk to some of the NA forum members about whether a chip is worthwhile. For minimal gains it might not be worth the effort. Hope this helps
Can't go on Sunday It coincides with church time unless you guys will be doing something in the weekdays or saturday. How's the Z going now? You and Jase will be selling the TWD system to us?
No problem .... Hoping to catch up with as many NZedder's as possible. Jason just received PCB's for the TWD with added features we're still experimenting with. BTW, Aaron tells me he has good chips for both TT & NA, man or auto, but especially NA.
Its too hard to say in all seriousness... ...the ecu itself certainly won't do the damage, but the fuel and ignition maps on there might. Simple way to get more power is to lean it out and advance timing - all well and good but all VG30DETT's are slightly different and all act differently - not to mention mods and boost levels. I'd be VERY wary of installing a new ROM into my ECU without knowing what AF ratios etc are like. If you do get it; put it on a dyno straight away to see what its doing.
