Posibility of moving the AFM.

does anyone know if moving the AFM slightly back and pointing downwards by way of an adaptor have any adverse effects? im trying to get my front mount to sit as far back as possible and shorten the inlet/outlet pipes. im thinking of making up a 45 degree (or close to) elbow to come out of the inlet pipe where the AFM usually sits in, bend straight down about 4 inches then bolt the afm and pod to that which will effectively give me about 80mm of space to push the intercooler back.
reason i ask is because im sick of wrestling with the stupid long cooler pipes and want to make shorter and simple ones and have more room between the front bar.

You will have trouble getting pipe work to fit the inter cooler that far back. A better option would be japtek style side mount coolers. No more additional piping and frees up space in front of the radiator.

i don't want to fork out for side mounts when i already have a front mount. i reckon i could get it to work with some silicone 90 degree bends and get my local muffler shop to trim and re-work the alloy pipes i'm already using. the pipes are the least of my worrys im more concerned about the afm.

ok so this is what i'm thinking, if i can get away with not using a dual intake for now then i'll make an elbow to go from the original afm mounting point, angle down and slightly back towards the radiator or down to the left so the pod doesn't hit the oil cooler. this will move the afm back away from the fmic IF, the different angle doesn't mess with the normal operation of the afm.

that'll give me room to move the fmic back as far as i can, use 90 degree bends coming off it and custom made pipes that are shorter and don't foul on the front bar. i'm just over the ridiculously long spaghetti piping that never seems to go back on the same way it came off.

How are you going to move the front mount back at all? It is already mounted right at the ends of the chassis rail.

mine has about 50mm gap between the chassis rails and front mount and about 10mm between the front bar and the face of the front mount. so the silicon joiners and clamps will be pretty much always rubbing on my freshly painted front bar. its always sat like this and when i had the standard front bar on i had to chop a hell of a lot out of it to get to fit. if i flip the mounting braket around the pipes won't meet up with each other.

ok so this weekend or next im going to make up an elbow to point the afm down to the left, hook up the cooler pipes with the front bar off and see if it starts and drives. if not, i'll just have to save my pennys for a dual afm intake, sigh..
