Hey all As any of you who have looked at my "Ute Of Death" build might know, I use an Adaptronic 420c programmeable ecu. IMHO these extremely advanced ECU's are unbeateable value and are almost infinitely configurable at up to half the price of anything competitive! I love mine and tuning it is a breeze. The support from the designer is fantastic and Andy is willing to do just about any custom configuration you could possibly think of. I cant praise these guys highly enough and coming from me, thats pretty high praise! Newhoo Adaptronic have released a straight up plug and play programmeable ECU for the Z32 from the "Select" rage of ECU's. See here for details and features: http://adaptronic.com.au/products/selectpnp.html $1400 bucks and your in business. And, if your in southern Tassie I can configure and tune it for you lolol!!! Check them out. Mods. Feel free to move this to the "For Sale By Businesses" if you feel its more appropriate there. Cheers Evan
These look like a proper ECU replacement with MAP sensor etc. Nistune of course requires a modified OEM ECU, and utilises the AFM not MAP sensor.
Yeah M8 true. Nistune is basically doing some modifications to your own ECU (chipping) and then re-writing your tuning parameters back to the ECU's eprom (brain). No different to finding, say a Mines or a bunch of other "brand name" ecu's which are just stock ecus chipped and re-flashed with each tuning houses own particular tune. The many aftermarket standalone and piggyback programmeable ECU's just go one step further and allow you to do whatever you will, whenever you like and in real time. Altho all this can be done with a chipped and stock ECU with the appropriate add-ons and software. This is what Toshi specialises in and of course, he has invested the time necessary to become familiar with the various tuning functions and how to quickly and accurately access them. What a standalone ECU will do is allow you to do all this using a simple and straightforward interface. I think aftermarket ECU's are much more desireable on older efi cars where the original ECU's are pretty agricultural and have no other jobs to do than just run the motor but with factory ecu's controlling/interfacing morew and more non-engine functions into the ECU, its probably better to chip and tune the stock ECU. For racing purposes, being able to ditch the MAF for MAP tuning would be a bonus considering the finicky nature of MAFs and the amount of R & D that goes into positioning them to avoid disturbed airflow which can really mess with their little heads and result in some really crap running for no reason. Whether adding an aftermarket ecu, or having your existing ECU chipped and tuned is totally a personal choice really but the law takes a very dim view af anything aftermarket. However, the stock ECU is not particulary clever and really only controls the engine with any real authority so........ some say yes and some say no!!!!!!!! Cheers E
Bang for buck..... it really is hard to go past a Nistune/Zemulator(or similar) modified oem ECU For the vast majority of zed owners, going to an aftermarket ECU is just a total waste of money (other than bragging rights). For a dedicated track zed, your Adaptronic looks good value BUT, as we all know.... the real expense comes when you start tuning the thing. As usual, just my 2 cents worth
Looks good! Not quite as well featured (or expensive) as Vi-Pec but a massive step up from nistune or microtech
Yes exactly! If you want to look at the full featured ECU, take a look at the 1280. http://adaptronic.com.au/products/e1280s.html Theres not a lot that one cannot do. L8r E
True in many ways. However, what happens if you want: Full time adaptive fuel tuning. Adaptive ignition control. Closed loop idle control via idle valves as well as ignition control VE tuning capability MAP, MAP + TPS, TPS only or RPM based tuning Launch control Anti-lag control Traction control Real time data logging Individual injector testing function Individual ignition channel testing Overboost protection Flat shiting Selectable (via a dash switch) tunes Valet/mechanic shop limit settings Predictive map enrichment control Ability to run either low/high impedance, saturated and peak/hold injectors with no pesky resistors et al and configurable injector currents Fly-By-Wire throttle control via configurable PID controllers Stall saving Shift lights And.. And....... 1400 bucks! I can go on if you like!!!!! Yep, stock IS pretty good for stock!!! L8r E
A mate of mine has a Dyno /Tuning shop at hervey Bay and he uses Motec or these adaptronics , He needed a ECU for customers looking for something less expensive than Motecs , and he has become quite a fan .....
The Adaptronic looks great but they would only be as good as the tuner. Are there any tuners in Adelaide/Australia that know how to properly tune this thing?

Quite impressive.... If you want/need those features. I particularly like the feature I've highlighted in red, that could come in handy However, to the average zed owner, that list only supplies $1400 worth of 'bragging rights'. I still stand by my original statement :
