Hi I am doing a plenum pull and was wondering where i can get a plenum gasket on the northside of brisbane as i am in morayfield also i was wondering if gasket goo is a sound idea or am i asking for trouble?
ty for the advice wasn't sure rather ask and look like a fool than do it and feel like one. also could a mod please shift this to the technical thread.
Nothing on the gasket. It has its own sealing strip already on the gasket. Get the OEM one. Use only Scotch-Brite on the mating surfaces to clean them up and no metal razor blades or wire wheels. It is amazing how many people don't understand about using steel on aluminum. I use only a plastic razor blade, Scotch-Brite and cleaner/degreaser for the cleaning of the surfaces. If on the occasion the mating surfaces are not plane and have been compromised then you can use a very thin coat of Permatex High-Tack Gasket Sealer. It comes in a can with a brush in the lid, it is dark blood red in color and smells like green olives. Like I said VERY THIN coat of this stuff on the gasket only. Very thin coat. Whatever you do...Do not use an RTV Gasket Sealer. I just pulled an engine apart that somebody had done this to. It had seeped all of the way down to the heads running inside the Lower Intake Manifold and was hard as epoxy. No good.
thanks rollin forgot u had one. managed to do it without having to remove the plenum as the bypasses were in place a few scraped knucles and nearly a full day all the offending hoses have been replaced. thanks for everyones help and rollin your like the patron saint of Z's on the northside. might have to come see ya about some injector o rings and a plenum gasket in the next month or so.
