My engine is pinging when i put my foot down a bit on cold starts and even when i leave it for say half a hour after it is hot it will do the same then after a minutes driving it will stop it and run normal. Any ideas? was thinking maybe a injector is sticking and firing lean on one cylinder? I have retarded the timing and added octaine boost and still the same. anyone else had this problem?
Re: Pinging when cold If possible try checking the fuel pressure. Things like the fuel pump control unit not upping the voltage or a fuel regulator sticking may cause a lean condition and vary with time or temp.
you sure its pinging??.... and not a noisy lifter??? a noisy lifter will making a rythmic tapping sound that will increase with revs. Usually, once the car is warmed up the tapping dissapears. Pinging on the other hand sounds like an irregular metallic rattle. Sort of like coins rattling. I've been fighting the pinging demon for 3 months and have only recently resolved the problem. But seriously, get it checked out by a zed expert just to be sure.. Cheers
