Hi all, As you might be aware I am in the depths of the Australian outback and premium unleaded is a rareity out here. I can only get regular unleaded.
Can anybody suggest a good octane booster that I can use, and where to get it from if it is a non forecourt product?
Thanks and Happy New Year - I hope yours is cooler than mine up here!

    NOS?

NOS make 2 good octane boosters.
One increases your fuel by up to 6 octane, the other up to 3.
The cheaper one (+3 octane) retails between 19 and 29 dollars.
The race one for between 25 and 40.
Expensive thing to have to put in to every tank. Hope it's not your daily driver...

No not my daily driver, I use it to get up here from Adelaide and back, so I only need a couple of bottles to get me back into civilization!

You could use toluene. One of the other US forums has a write up on it.

    Neill,
The references to toluene are good ones. Long before ULP was available you could only get leaded super (98 octane I think) and standard. However Shell used to market "methyl benzene" as a performance enhancing additive. Methyl benzene is of course toluene and I used to buy it for about 1/4 of Shell's Methyl Benzene price and run it as a 25% blend with Super petrol, giving me an octane rating somewhere around 104. Made a huge difference to my hot MG which was NA of course running about 14:1 compression ratio.
    regards
    Terry
