Can anybody advice me on how to import a car personally and what conditions must I follow? - Can I import a LHD car?
    - Can I import a car with some modifications?
    - How many cars can I import personally? Thanks in advance.

I think the new rules don't allow for the

individual to do the importing, so number you can personally import = 0, it now has to be done by a RAWS certfied dealer/importer, the cost of the compliance has gone up, but next year the 89 model should come down in compliance cost, the 2+2 can only be imported if its a post 96 model.I think you can import a LHD car, but you have to convert it, if it is over 30 years old you can leave it LHD, saw that somewhere around here. And NO you can't import a car with any mods, anymore, they have to be of original manufactured standard.

i think it just has to be complied in

    standard form.

    89 model Z...

could be brought in under the 15 years and over rule next year. under that, it would not require as strict a compliance job (could be wrong?). But i do know that if the 15 year old rule is still there next year, that all Z's (incl TT 2+2) would be eligible.Nav

No, Shiri is referring to a different scheme

Personal imports are COMPLETELY different to both the LOW VOLUME/SEVS and 15 YEAR Import rule... (or at least used to be different)

Personal Imports apply to Australians who live overseas - buy a car - own it for 12 months or more and then import it as part of their property... Different plate even - I believe it is yellow from memory (Wizard has one - he bought his car from someone who had gone through this personal import scheme). From memory, the compliance regulations are different...

Unfortunately Sam, I don't have much more detail than that, and it may have changed with the SEVS changes too... I would try researching through DoTARS.
I suggest also speaking to someone more familiar with importing, like Geoff Risbey or possibly Ben (Houndz)...

    Good luck

    Yeah that's it!

That's what I'm looking for.I understand some of the conditions for importing a car personally (have to own that car for 12 months first before importing). But not sure if I can import any car (like a LHD car). Thanks for that!
