Hey guys, Having a pretty rough night tonight. Went out for a drive, on my way back home I smelt a really wierd smell.. really bad smell, like something was overcooking - thought it was the motorbike next me then I see white smoke coming from under my car so Im like oh shit I turn off the car ASAP (I was at the lights) open the hood that smell and white smoke was spewing from underneath the engine. When in idle it made a wierd high pitch sound only in idle.. Heat temp was normal ... so it's not the radiator, something was cooking but I don't know what, I checked oil a couple days ago and it was fine.. maybe water pump? I've no idea, I really suck at anything technical lol What are the normal readings for oil pressure?? Sometimes mine goes damn close to zero on idle, sometimes when driving it goes up to around close to 8.. this just happened tonight before it was always in the low to mid readings. I managed to make it home by driving, parking for abit, drive again etc. She's parked in front still smells like something is cooking but not as bad as before. Anyone have any ideas..?? Looks like my exhaust will have to wait lol Man so pissed off with one of my workmates, sees me with hazard lights on looks at me laughs and drives off! -YakuzaMoon Oh, the car is a Non-turbo by the way..
That guage is oil pressure, rather than oil temp, assuming we're talking about the stock guage in the cluster. Besides that, I cannot offer much help, but i'm sure somebody else can
It could be your aircon compressor has siezed? That would cause the belt to slip and heat up probably producing a fair bit of smoke. When the aircon went in my maxima on the highway, it made a really high pitched squealing sound and had white smoke pouring out from under the bonnet. Maybe try running your car with the aircon turned off and see if that fixes anything? (aircon compressor is the pulley closest to the front passenger side wheel)
Now that you mention it... I had it on cos of the fog on my windscreen (the button next to auto, for the window vent) I had it on low then it happened a short while after.. I think it must be it. Thank you so much ryzan! Much appreciate and I will check it out tomorrow morning and see how it goes. May as well ditch the air con all together I reckon lol -YakuzaMoon
Dunno where you live but for me aircon is an essential in the Zed, even with the targas off I always have it blowing on my feet Hope that fixes your problem though and hope that's all thats wrong. You should be able to get away with just cutting the belt for now as that should still allow the fan and the heater to operate normally (don't cut it until you're 110% sure that's whats wrong though ) Goodluck :zlove::zlove::zlove:
When the A/C is switched off the electric clutch on the belt pulley is disengaged(freewheels), so there is no reason to remove or cut the drive belt. 99.9% of compressor ceasure occurs internally and has nothing to do with the drive pulley.
Yes I know but I thought I read in another thread here about another member's climate control aircon always turning on when the car was started? I was just taking a punt assuming that's how it works as both my zeds have the manual controls and I've never seen a climate control unit before. But I'm willing to admit I'm wrong and If chili's right you may very well be able to get away without cutting the belt?
Thanks guys - I'm gonna go for a test drive without turning on AC see how it goes. The smell is slightly still there when I turned her on though.. and the fan at the front is slightly noisy o_o Gonna take her for a spin. Will see how it goes -YakuzaMoon
Okay, thanks guys you were right the problem is the AC compressor for sure. Glad it wasn't anything serious lol almost crapped myself when I saw smoke pouring out of under the hood. Thread can be closed! Problem solved! -YakuzaMoon
