    Hey all

Just noticed my oil pressure gauge doing this....

    http://s168.photobucket.com/albums/u197/Helliquin/?action=view&current=29012009007.flv

ie: Gauge flicking back and forth.

Usually, as it is located in the footwell, i only look at it when at idle (taking eyes off the road whilst driving isnt so fun). At idle it stays in the one place, when warm this is just above the red.

So no idea if this is a recent thing or not.

    1) Normal?
    2) could it be the gauge is dead/shit?
    3) oil pressure sensor dead?

    4) if it is wrong/bad/broken - how do i fix?

    Andy.

PS: if this is normal, and i havnt noticed before, just tell me im stupid.
PPS: Sorry for shitty footage, phone video and wasnt looking :p

A mechanical gauge couldn't jump around like that, so I reckon its an electrical unit. The unit could be cactus, the sender could be cactus, or there is a loose wire at one end or the other.

IMHO an oil pressure gauge way down there is useless, and it just might take your kneecap off in a prang. So I'd pull it out and go back to the standard gauge in the dash cluster. Is that one still operational?

What brand of gauge is it? The quality brands have dampeners to stop them flicking around, so my bet is it is probably a cheapy that has gone sour. Easy enough to replace with a new one, but not down there.

    Hey Bear

No idea what kind, was in the car when i got it. Hence the shit location as previous owner was a large douchebag.

Stock oil pressure gauge = cactus, which is why he put it in.

Have dual gauge pod to go on pillar. Might just buy me the new gauges and put it in, if its still dickey.... the sensor might need changing.

Thanks for the relief. I was fairly certain that it was just the gauge or something as the car is running fine. If it did actually have oil pressure like that im sure the gauge would be the least of my worries.... :p

    So the list is:

SS coil overs (where from? they used to be 1600, now 1900 :( )
    UAS front bar.
    Foggies.
    oil pressure gauge.
    water temp gauge.

    for starters.

arse. it never seems to get shorter.

    Andy

Fair enough, but don't give up on the original oil pressure gauge. The unit in the dash cluster is pretty robust, but it is quite common for the sender unit on the block to give up the ghost. Replacements for the sender unit are not hard to get. Coz at ConceptZ sells an original replacement unit, and some people have replaced the Nissan one with a generic VDO unit.

There is a write-up in the Tech section about the sender replacement. Have a look at it.
