    Hey guys, i've got a TT 2+2 Z32 (9/89) The engine isn't in too bad nick but my oil pressure is concerning.
    At start up it is around 4 (stock oil pressure guage) for a short peoriod, 5-10 minutes, but for the rest of the drive it is always below 2 and often drops down to near 0 for a while. Sometimes it comes back up to just below 2 after a while but sometimes it stays at about 0.5 until i get home and turn it off. Next morning (provided it isn't extremely hot) it will go back to starting at 4 and driving just under 2. While it is low, revving the engine brings it back up a little (to maybe 1 or 1.5) but as soon as I take take the foot off and take it back to idle it drops back to about 0.5.

    I know that the sender sometimes die, but mine doesn't just sit on 0 it always shows something above zero, and even if it is extremely close to 0 revving moves it so I dont think the sender is dead.

    I'm a bit concerned. Any ideas?

    I've read in the tech area that these things can cause it but I don't know how to check any of them as i'm not the greatest mechanic yet (trying to learn):

    * Low oil level
    * Improper oil viscosity
    * Oil diluted
    * Camshaft, main, or connecting rod bearing worn
    * Crankshaft or camshaft journals worn
    * Oil pump worn
    * Pressure relief valve spring is weak
    * Oil pump intake is clogged
    * Hole in the oil pickup pipe
    * Leak in the oil connection line
    * Oil filter is plugged
    * Low idle speed
    * Oil galleys are clogged

    I've ruled out the first 3 as I change oil and filter every 5000 km and use good oil. Idle is about 800ish rpm but the pressure can drop to under 1 even when cruising at 2000rpm.

    Can someone help?
    Thanks.

    Answer

    If i had a dollar for every time this question is asked i'd have a few.
    your guage is exactly the same as every other stock guage pretty much useless, same as the water temp guage.
    for acurate readings you will need to fit after market guages.
    Just type oil pressure guage into search and you will find all the answers you need.:D
