Now I have your attention what years did OB1 computers run till in the zeds. I think there was OB1 and 2 but not sure what years had what. Cheers Jas
Jason you dork, it's OBD 1 and OBD 2 Pretty sure OBD 1 was used in the first Z32's, OBD 2 started sometime in 1995 when the 16 bit ECU was released.
thats what i read too.....well something similar, but couldnt find the link to the thread that was on nico, so didnt post it lol
1996+ was OBDII. But as far as I know, it was only compulsory on new vehicle models, so the 300ZX may have kept OBD 1
Doh yeah thanks Karl OBD makes a bit more sense. One of those weeks. I am pretty sure my 95 was OBD2 before the power fc went in. Can I fit an OBD1 ECU what effects will it have if any or anyone know where I can buy a new OBD2 ECU
The guys on ztechz (http://ecu2.forumwise.com/) would have your answer. If anywhere would be able to definitively answer your question they'd be on that forum. 1996 does have OBD II BTW. This thread makes me think you can put a OBDI ECU in no trouble, especially if it's chipped: http://ecu2.forumwise.com/ecu2-thread1232.html
Cool So the only diff is ones 16 bit code and ones 8 bit code all the inputs etc should be the same regardless
It seems so, though some sensors may be missing/extra it would seem. Might be worth asking on that forum with a part as important as the ECU.
Cool thanks Vaughn and others I will look into it might even drop Nissan a line or TTZ and see if I can get a new one with the chassis code or something especially as I think I will need to replace the main harness also due to the power fc Is it still illegal to run an aftermarket ECU in NSW
