O2 sensors (running rich)

Hey fellas (and the lovely ladies out there)... will new O2 sensors help my poor air/fuel mixture? I've been running rich and the cat signal warning light has been coming on a lot as well.

I've been contemplating getting Caz's NGK/NTK O2 sensors, but not sure of the gains apart from getting rid of that light.

    Any advice is always appreciated.

    O2 sensors...

the information from the O2 sensors is only used in the closed loop portion of the ecu (usually under light throttle or cruise conditions). When you accelerate hard, the ECU goes into open loop and then the O2 sensors are ignored...

before you go spend money on new O2 sensors, hook your car up to datascan or conzult and actually see of they are dead.... replacing your sensors may solve your problems, but if they are working fine, you have to look elsewhere...

    Cheers

O2's will help the mixture "IF" thats the problem. Do a quick diagnostic test (see the tech section) and confirm you don't have a det sensor or temp sensor code being thrown up. Cat warning light means your either running Hugely rich, your missfiring and burning fuel in your exhaust, or your cats are buggard.

See tech article here for high fuel consumption causes. Sounds like a combination of the causes listed here if you are causing the cat temp sensor to come on. How far are you getting on a tank?

Thanks guys. In that case, I'll see if anyone at the Syd tech day has one of those conzult/datascan things.

zductive, i'm getting around 400km per tank, probably a bit more? My trips to Canberra from Sydney take up slightly more than half a tank. It's not too bad on the highway, but John from UAS said it was running rich, and my drives to work when I'm late really show it. Cheers for the link!

U think 400Km per tank is bad ? Try ~300Km. Im currently trying to find what the problem is, even though the diagnostic test showed code55, so i dont know what could it be. Hopefully someone might be able to help me at the TechDay coming up, looking forward to that :D :zlove:

    You may get code 55

But your O2 sensors might be running slow. You can perform a diags to check their rate. I believe it is 5 flashes every 10 seconds ~ 2k RPM means they are running correctly. There is a write up in the tech section.

Yeah i have been reading the tech article but it dosnt say nething about a diagnostic, only about checking the volts in the connectors, which i will do 2moro, ps, i have no ideea how the connectors look, can someone post a pic of explain where abouts they are. Thx a lot :D

Okay today i tested the O2 sensors, on the right side(driver) the voltage fluctuated from 11 to 10 to 12, but on the left side(passanger) it read around 5 volts and it was constant.
Now i was thinking could it be that there is something else wrong, like injectors, sparks, etc, ? Should i go ahead and do that O2 sensor bypass ? And if i do and there is no change that would mean the sensors are fine, can i go back to using the sensors ? is the bypass reversible ?

    We dont bypass the 02s

buy new sensors, there not expensive! get your injectors cleaned and tested, make sure the plugs are in good working order, clean your pod, or stock air filter. O2s are the most common cause off crap milage.

Ohh thats right, i confused the O2 sensor with the det sensor which i read an article about bypassing that. Ok thanks a lot beaver, il buy new sensors soon then, and get the other stuff cheked aswell.
