O2 connecter harness and mysterious fuse

Hi all, 2 out of 3 wires of the connecter that meets the O2 sensor connector broke. The red/black, and black wire snapped, so the only one remaining is the white one in the middle. I read somewhere that the wire of the O2 sensor should be soldered instead of connecting them physically. Was wondering whether the same apply to the wire harness. They are slightly thicker than the o2 sensor wire. Just to be clear, it is not the wire of the O2 sensor that snapped, but the wire of the connecter that connects to the O2 sensor.

I also found a red wire coming from the firewall behind the battery, connecting to the positive end of the battery. In between the wire was a cylinder transparent thing that has a piece of metal in it, which i suspect is a fuse. Half of the outer layer of the transparent cylinder had melted, and also part of the insulation tape at both end of the cylinder. It was originally very near the middle part of the engine (maybe thats why its hot), but now i relocate it between the battery and the left side of the engine bay. My question is, what is that cylinder thingy, and is it safe to relocate it there?

Thanks for reading this long winded question! Cheers.

your transparent cyclinder "thing" attached to a red wire and connected to the battery "positive" sounds very much like a fused cable from an amplifier or associated audio equipment .....

+2 id say its an amp power cable for sure... if you dont hav one it may be from previous owner and couldn't be bothered pulling the amp wire out.

Thanks for the replies guys. There was an aftermarket amp and speaker from the previous owner which was removed when I got it - took out too much space from the already narrowed trunk. I'll try and remove it, such an eyesore with a melted wire and fuse in the engine bay.

02 sensor wire on the 02 side of the

3 pin plug is higher grade wire than standard (stainless?) Harder to solder but can be done. Which side of the plug is broken?

In any case, look in the service manual here. for wiring colours.

It would be a low resistance type wire, unsure of grade, but I would crimp them together rather than solder them.

quite possible that if there was an amp removed the power wire has shorted on the body of the vehicle somewhere in the trunk this would cause the fuse to have blown and the melted wiring.
