[NSW] Toyo NSW Drift Championship

Hey guys and girls,

It is the eve of Round 2 of the Toyo NSW Drift Championship, and the Sureflo Drift Team will be out to battle with the best of NSW and even some of the Drift Australia competitors that are travelling down.

The test last Sunday went quite well, we certainly could have improved further if I had had more seat time before the day, but we are working with what we have got, and we have learnt that Oran Park is much more grippy surface than we originally thought, and far more grippy than QLD, so we have to take some grip out of the thing, which we have done.

Tomorrow sees us on the North Circuit at Oran Park, or the Go Kart Track, which is quite tight and technical, and one that I have done a few laps on, normally I am quite quick there, and with the car set the way it is we are confident of a quite good result for the team.

I won't promis that I will be on here tomorrow night, as I will be knackered, but hopefully some of you will come out to support the Drift Z as we continue it's development.

can you post up some high res engine bay shots. what tranny are you using. was the firewall cut at all?
any plans for turbos??

 

Hey Simmo,
A small amount of firewall 'massaging' was needed, mainly for the transmision. It runs the T56 6speed trans and the Zed diff with Leader 4.1 gears on a full spool.
No plans for turbo's... or blower.



These engine bay shots will be history very soon, she is about to change....dramatically!

Dan made it through to the Top 16, but a fuel filter had an issue in the actual Top 16 Vs battle and had a spin on the first run (due to the cutting out issue the fuel filter caused)... the Second run was brilliant, but the following driver, didn't have a spin and hence won on points.

Dan drove brilliantly all weekend, and even did a few "glory laps" with 3 lucky people, and the issue didn't return. Caz can tell you more. :biggrin:

 

Would be sad to see that setup go, hopefully ill still be an LS engine.......LS7 perhaps or better yet a 454ci LSx with 8800rpm.

It was a very successful day from the teams point of view

With the punishing that car endures a blocked swirl tank fuel filter is really a minor hiccup but it was enough to cause problems for Dan when it cut supply briefly in battle.

Dans driving was brilliant and I can't tell you good it is to see that Zed drifting so beautifully and sounding so HOT!

There were a few DA cars competing and it made for some fantastic heart in your throat battles.

Drift Australia asked to use The DriftZ and Dan for the 'Ride in a DA car' competition Prize which was cool, some busty blonde girl won the competition..rigged or what ??? LOL

But the coolest part was that at the end of the day I too got to jump in the passenger seat for a Hot Lap with Dan around my favorite 'Driftland' track. What an experience that was, so much fun! He works so hard in there, the smoke..the heat and the rubber spray were full on and we weren't following anyone...it was all ours!!

Getting rides in these things is close to impossible..Insurance red tape, Greg the owner still hasn't been in it drifting , but when DA officials agreed to let one of us in for 1 lap, Greg gave it to me , what a champ

The day ended with a BBQ & beers thrown on for all the teams at 'UP Garage' which was a very nice end to the day. :biggrin:

A Good Day

Hey there Guys and Girls,

Well as Caz reports we had a great day out, and the car came along again which is good, I'm really starting to build some confidence in it and am looking forward to the final DA round in about 3 weeks time.

We qualified 9th, which was good, however I feel that we could have been a bit higher up if it wasn't for a few little problems, but that is motorsport, and the good news is the pit crew, who have plenty of experience, but have never worked together, sorted all the problems pretty quickly and by battle time the car was running awesome.

The first battle I was up against a little hutchi, and to be fair he had been having problems all day long, the battles went to me 8-2 and 10-0, which was a convincing win.

Second up I was up against a guy that had been around for a while, but who was pretty slow, I chased him a bit too close and as he left the first corner I had put too much angle on to be able to accelerate hard out of the corner. A little bit of acceleration and I started to go around, I clutched to correct but the engine died. 10-0 against me and I needed him to spin for a re-run. he didn't, I won 6-4 but lost the battle.

We finsihed 12th for the day.

I was dissapionted, but am still happy with the progress we made. I know there is lots more to do, but we are walking in the right direction, and with my confidence building and seat time increasing, should be returning some good results soon.

Next event, Round 5 of the Toyo Drift Australia Series, 22-23rd of September, Oran Park.

I am a confirmed entrant for the final DA round Autosalon show and shine so you guys will get to see what a real Nissan through and through Zed looks like lol.

I caught up with Greg and Matt at Sureflow and cant wait to attend this event, its my first time to one live so I am getting very excited. Its also the last time ZX2NV will look the way she does as the transformation begins 28th September 2007
