Not turning over

Hi, haven't been on here for a while, because the Zed has been running well and I don't drive as much as I used to.

I needed a car today and sadly it has let me down.

I normally remote start the car to let it warm up, and the 2 way alarm was communicating with the car, but It wouldn't start.

Went downstairs and and tried the key. And it doesn't even attempt to start. It's like the engine imobiliser is on. But the alarm is off, and the engine immobilizer has been turned off in the alarm system for a while.

I don't have my multimeter here. But I suspect the battery is working fine. It's an optima dry cell battery. The last time I started the car was 2-3 weeks ago.

All the lights on the dash light up when the ignition key is set to ON. The alarm activates the keyless entry fine. And for once I didn't leave my headlights on.

Any ideas? I would like to get this moving, as it's parked in an underground car park, And it'd be a real hassle to get it towed.

when you say attempt to start I assume you mean that the car is Turning over (started motor working) but won't engine won't fire up.

I've seen a number of people have a similar issue and there seem to be a number of reasons..
the ones i know about are:

1 - The battery terminals might be loose or dirty. (check and clean).
2 - The battery just doesn't have enough power to do the job. (see if you can borrow another one or jump it)
3 - Could be fuse or relay related.
4 - Could also be a faulty alarm (irrespective of setting you say have been changed, and why, was there an issue?).

also FYI, if the car is flooded it won't start.. I think there are instructions in the tech section for this... but simply, pull fuel pump fuse, turn car over for 2-5 minutes with accelerator full open, put fuse back in and try again)

there are most like others as well that I hope someone will come along soon and point out... :)

    Thanks for the reply

Nope the starer motor does not engage. The dash lights turn off, but nothing else happens when you turn the key. And the headlights are working.

    1) I'll give that a go.
    2) Possible but unlikely. You would normally hear a a couple of weak cranks.
    3) any particular fuse I should check?
    4) This is possible. The ignition immobilser was switched off because I didn't need it, As I installed a separate immobilser on the fuel pump.

Think you will find that some how, some where the immobilizer is still working.

    Borrowed a multi-meter today. Only got 5.8V

so it might be a flat battery after all. Or I've been messing around with it too much and drained it.

I'll invest in some jumper cables, and wait for tomorrow night when the housemate gets back.

I would have said flat battery ,as he turns it on, the dash lights go out. dead flat they drain a small amount even when they are off so eventually you need to recharge battery or disconnect the terminal when you are not going to use it for a while should be fine
