Driving home today, enjoying TT power, doesn't mean i was flogging it, taking it rather easy to be honest, when hear this high pitched squeal coming from the engine bay, i have no idea what it is, my guess is the turbo is gone, 4 days into it! , it just makes the worst sound u can imagine, not much luck, just awaiting to hear from Tom on what to do next and diagnose it *sigh* Basically it squeals on start up, as soon as you turn on the car, but when driving home whenever changed gears it would quieten down somewhat, then rev, most terrible sound This post in no way shape or form is having a go at Tom, as i believe the problem lies within the turbo itself, just seeing if this has happened to other ppl before XZX007 reckons it could be the aircon tension bearing, who knows, just wanting to see if i can diagnose it before we pull engine out again Not much luck
Well there is always teething problems Which is understandable, just can't believe its happened so soon Thanks Simon, just made me feel a whole lot better..... 300zt - who knows, i hope it is, but i doubt it...
thats what i meant mick, theres always going to be teething probs,it will take a while to iron out, keep ya head up man :zlove:
I dont think its ya turbos man. Check all the belts and if not it could be the aircond tension bearing or one of the timing belt tension bearings.
yeah i agree with 300zxt.....it sounds just like a belt and it makes sense too...lets all hope thats what it is mikey
Well this sounds like a loose belt, I hope it is for your sake, check the mothers its not difficult. Better still start the car and put your head under the bonnet, listen where the sound is comming from, before you call it.
I get a squeal coming from the engine bay as well in my van when i drive it in the rain or in a puddle but then it goes away when it dries up , most likely its the tensioners or belts
sounds like a slipping belt particurly if the sound increases with revs..... if the turbo was dead you would know all about it , hang in there miksta we will help if needs be!!
Orite Just turned it on, been hours since its been driven, seems to be a little quieter than what it was, but still its very noticable from the LHS of the engine (looking at it from the front), as I went to both sides and it is definately noticable from the LHS, if it was fan belt shouldn't the noise be most noticable near the fans itself and not near the turbo/air con direction? Checked all the belts, with the limited room there is now and they seem to be tight but who knows, some of the boys are coming over 2moro, see what they say....
LHS or RHS? Correct way to describe is if you view car from rear or drivers seat. LHS may also be described (in Aus) as passenger side. If a/c comp seized it will squeal when a/c ON. A/c clutch or tensioner failure will result in squeal regardless. Hope this helps.
ok then RHS - drivers side Done what u said, played around with the air-con, turned it on and off (not that it was working anyways lol.....), no difference in sound, still there, only changed sound when there was a change of rev's slightly turning the fan on and off Only time will tell
If it was the alt A failure of the alt wouldn't allow the car to start up in the first place?, but yeh getting multiple opinions 2moro, so wont panic just yet... Thanks for ur help anyways
if the alternators gone it shouldnt squeal.. and if it does a warning light should come on saying its not charging...
bit of the old squeal mate. i wouldnt be pushing the panick button dude. you should be on the phone 2 tom !!! id say belts , ac conpressor clutch even.. turbos dont squeal!
Try tensioning your drive belts and at the same time smear a thin layer of molybond grease on the drive belts, if you still hear the same sound get a long screw driver and place it against the alternator and also on the air/con compressor and belt tensioner then place the other end against your ear and it will amplify the same sound at a higher level, it's an old trick that elininates pulling things apart and not finding the actual problem !
