    Hey Guys.

Thinking about getting new rims for the Z, and not sure whether to go for 17" or 18". (17 x 7 or 18x 7.5)

The concern for 18" is ride quality - the Z's my daily driver.

Whats the profile rules for 17" and 18" to not throw the speedo out?
    ie 225/50/16 - isn't it then 225/40/17 or 225/30/18??

Offsets - the wheels I like have 35 and 38 available. What's the diff?
The site says 35 for rear, either for front ??

Whats the best tyre sizes to not have the crappy "this tyre is too small for this rim" look? The standard rims have 225x50 and that looks good on those. Cant' recall the standard rim width.

    Thanks guys.

    Simon.

17's should be 235/45, not sure about 18's but sidewall should be 40 something.

i recall your car is an AU spec? if so, for an NA with less torque, 17's would be more suitable unless you're getting very light 18's.

also 7" is way too skinny, not suitable mate... stock is 7.5.

whatever you get,try to get a min 8 front,9 rear ,7 inch is way too smaller width imo
In future you are probably going to want wide tyres, and 7 inch is not going to cut it im afraid, what rims are you looking at going for ?,post a link
As far as ride quality,18's are no problems at all

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

    you need 8" wide rims.

standard width tyre for an 8" wide rim for the diameters as follows...

    17x8 = 235/45/R17
    18x8 = 235/40/R18

If you go wider, then you will have to reconsider the profiles to another step smaller.

    re 18s

for 18s you can have 235/40 on front or 265/35 on rear. It makes the ride much harsher but I noticed more responsive with the steering/handling. Gain a bit and loose a bit. Personally I would go the 17 inch rims save a few hundred dollars and then think about a new set of suspension bushes all around and this will sharpen up your handling. Daily drivers have to be comfortable. I dont live in the city so the roads are ruff.
As a side many GTR track driving owners (r32, r 33) find they get best handling with 17s. I have a gtr and 2 zeds and feel they both are better with the 17s on. Will eventually have both my zeds with 17s. The fashion is bigger the better, so if you want to look pretty go for some 20 inch rim:rolleyes:

The perfect size wheel is the widest one with the smallest diameter to fit over the largest brakes you will ever run

    Hmmm...
    Person I spoke to said 7 x 17 or 7.5 x 18

Different sites seem to have conflicting info :-(

Some say 17 x 7, some 17 x 7.5. Looks like a physical visit to get to the bottom of it all.

    I *think* I can get 17 x 7.5 or 18 x 8

Mike - You're right, AUSSpec NA.

I wanted 8" at front, 9" at rear, but can't with those rims... :(

    hey mate

dont worry what the tyre dealer down the road says.. he has not even a bee's rectom of knolegde compaired to what we have... if he had any brain hed go by stock width which is 7.5" all round and fits a 225.

Now if your wanting a perfect fit rim and like economy for tires get the same width all round ie 8s all round or 8.5s all round. This way you can get good value tires like a 235 / 245 all round and rotate when need be.

If your not into economy and like a tuff staggered look id go with 8.5s front on a 245 tyre and 9.5 rear on a 265 tyre. This setup makes the car feel more stable if your in the hills going for a booot.

ride quality on a 17 or 18 is fine but it depends on tyre choice. A non or semi directional (straight cut) tyre is quieter than a directional (grooved cut pointing forward) but less grippy and harder. Hence it lasts longer. Ive seen a non lowered car with semi-directional tyres last 50,000kms. (driven easy)

most of us never get that close.. ;) simon you know why!

visit tempetyres.com.au or speak to Roi in the forum hes from VIC and knows our cars well. that way youll get looked after.

    Cheers

Thanks - They're pretty close. (But not quite close enough)

I do want black centres, polished lip (I think it'll look good on Red Z), deep dish.

    I DON'T want 5 spokes. Anything but 5 spokes. Everyone has 5 spokes.

Preferably Light wheels (no turbo to compensate for weight!)

Any other wheels that's suit the purpose?

I had 19x8's front and rear with 235/35 front and 255/30 rear, I also had 18x8's front and rear with 225/40 front and 255/35 rear and noticed no difference in ride quality between the two.

I'd suggest some 18x7.5 or x8's front and rear and get 225/40 front and something slightly wider on the rear... Your car is an NA so you won't really need the wider track as you don't lose much traction on 225's anyway - plus its a bit cheaper that way too
