Hey, I've just bought a 300zx twin turbo. My question is that I bought it with no rego and I was going to use it as a track and drift car. But now I think I wanna register it and drive it. What's the reliability of the motor? Fuel economy? Anything I should look for? And is there any thing in particular I should watch for?
Q) What's the reliability of the motor? A) The motors are very reliable, IF, it has been looked after & well maintained. Q) Fuel economy? A) OK for normal driving, they are a reasonably heavy car, thirsty if you put your foot down. Q) Anything I should look for? A) Everything! Especially if you have purchased at the lower end of the market. Q) And is there any thing in particular I should watch for? A) Overheating would be No.1, once again, not a problem if it has been looked after & well maintained. The TT is a great car & fun to drive. The general appearance of the vehicle would be indicative of its reliability. Search the forum for problem$ member$ have encountered.
I Am new to z32's as well. I bought mine as a 89 Auto Non turbo. first problem I had was the auto Stopped Changing Gears. Since then I converted it to Manual, and have been Flogging the 'Bejesus' out of it and have had no problems....Yet haha. Seeing as you intially bought it as a track car. I can presume you will be doing the same :br: So in saying that, id recommend doing a full service, fluids, brake pads etc. Also would recommend a plenum pull (if it hasn't had one done) and check/replace timing belt (if old). The old man's car is a 92 TT and the temperature likes to wander to hotter side, but usually only in summer and heavier traffic. If your really worried about over-heating, install an aftermarket water temp gauge as the stock one isn't the best. ATM I am getting around 110-120 Km's out of $20 of fuel In Brisbane (so city driving). But mine is Non turbo so it will be a little more efficient.
Welcome to the insanity we call home. The guys here will give a list of potential problem to look for. Where in NSW are you located?
Any car can be reliable. Just comes down to how much $$ your willing to invest. When I was younger, I was told that you have these three options with cars however you can only choose two: - Performance - Reliability - Cheap performance and reliability will sacrifice cheapness, cheapness and reliability will sacrifice performance & performance and cheapness will sacrifice your reliability. If money isn't a problem then have the fun of your life
