ok guys just found a plug at the centre back of the motor unpluged but had a little diode type thing pushed in seems dodgy to me can i put pics here somehow and i'll show wat was in it
That's ok, that means the det sensor was playing up, and rather than pull the engine apart, the previous owner took the easy way out and bypassed it (with the resistor). However, this means the det sensor won't limp the car, so if it pings, you'll be in trouble. For now always fill up with 98 octane and don't rev the crap out of it on hot days. -Kirill
Yeah, just leave it for now. You can read up in the tech section, it should be under detonation I'm pretty sure. It's a good idea to have a working det sensor (it was put there for a reason after all), but it's buried under a lot of crap, so changing it is a bit of a mission. Just remember to always put in good fuel and don't thrash it hard on hot days and it should be fine. (and don't crank boost just yet, but since you're running BELOW standard, that's not an issue). -Kirill
thanx for all the help guys i realy appreciate it i carnt wait till i can start enjoyin my 300 benny let me know when ur avalible i'll organise beers
Soak the old sensors in WD40 or INOX (or another brand of penetrating oil) over night for a couple of days before you attempt to remove them. Then, smash the tops off the old sensors (that's right, destroy them) so you can get a socket over the nut to unbolt them. They can be a pig to unbolt, this is why you'll need to smash it to use a socket to unbolt - but quite do-able. Then put in the new replacement sensors with an open ended spanner and you're done! Have you sourced a supplier for replacement 02 sensors? I'd recommend member here called Caz1 who has a website www.cazracing.com.au. You can get them from there.
WD40 or INOX. replaced a members na300 o2's, used inox, plenty off it, did it, started the car then walked into the shed to get datascan to check them out, got side tracked for a few minutes, when i turned to go back out, I could see smoke, lots off it comming from the engine bay, sussed it, but it still gave me a start. Exspect the same to happen when you do yours. :zlove:
Yep true, good advice there Beav. Don't be alarmed when you see smoke at first after starting if you've soaked the buggers the night before
Alternatively u can get the o2's from ttz (just do a google search for the address) they have the o2's on special for $76 atm cheaper than the $100 everyone else wants took them 4 days from order to get here via COD aus post.
ok yet another problem it is now blowing white smoke out the back more out left than right most of the time only at idle so i put new pcv's in and still doin it
