I installed my new tail shaft but its still vibrates when driving. i know that they should be balanced but could i have put it in at the wrong point? to correct this would i need to take it to a mechanic to have a look at or is it a home job. would most mechanics know how to fix this or should it be sent to a z specialist. what can i do to correct the vibrations?
Yes, could be put on wrong. Measure the runout as per the service manual and adjust. Is it a 1 piece or 2? Could also be a worn gearbox/diff mounts or rooted half shafts.
i fit is a 2 peice they need to be phased, if not it will cause vibration. to phase a tail shaft the u-joint caps should be aligned when looking along the lenth of the shaft. you can do this yourself.
More info required ... New t/s? 1 piece or rebuilt 2 piece; na or tt; who built/rebuilt it? Your location would help.
i have a 2 pice. is there something is the manual that shows how to put in a new tail shaft? hmmm interesting ill have another look. is there any defendant way to make shore you have it in the right sopt the first time or just heaps of testing at different spots.
na, 2 piece, im in camberwell i do just about all work my self but just wondering if this is out of my control.
Do a SEARCH Phasing is important but with a rebuilt 2-piece the main problem is having the correct new uni's installed as some aftermarket uni's (available in recent years) are not 100% compatible with the existing yoke(s) Who did the re-build?
On a TT, no. It's the bit at the gearbox end and in the middle. The NA's have 3 uni's. The TT has 2 uni's and one CV.
well mine is a na, i think it might be when installing into the gear box. how can i find out where the tail shaft splines fit into the gear box?
lol so take it out change the position and try again? there has to be a better way. how much would it cost to take it to some to to fix?
i have had a look an the gear box mounts are fine they are in the right position so would this take out phasing??? should i take it to any mechanic to have a look at or should take it to a 300zx specialist?
when installing the tail shaft into the gear box is there only two ways it can go ie the way you fit it in and then 180 degrees of your first choice ?
I thought there was only one... Doesn't matter, that end has no effect on the shaft or vibrations as far as I know. Could be wrong though...
