First of all I would like to give a shout out to everyone here Im new to this club and a new owner of a 1989 model TT z32 just a few questions i would liek to ask and if anyone could help it be very much appreciated first of all my odometer has become bit faulty lately when i got it it was working fine then yesterday on way home it did not work then this morning seem to be working again what could cause this? secondly im not sure if this is normal or not, i got an auto version. when the accelerator is fully depressed/released for example when fully stopped at a light and then press on the gas, it quite stiff at the start sometimes but once i pass a point it feels normal. is this normal on all z32 i love my z32 and hoping to meet every 300zx owner in brizzie one day cheers guys
get your hands on a consult cable. check out the car make sure it isnt in safe mode - thats what i would do. i dont understand what you mean its quite stiff? as in, its hard to press with your foot?
We have a fairly comprehensive Tech Section, and there is a tech for odometer repair. Click on the link above and search for "odometer repair".
Get someone else to press on the pedal while you watch what the cable and throttles do (with the engine off) and check to see if anything is binding.
There is a speed sensor attached to the gearbox that sends signals to the speedo (and other places). Make sure you get that checked out before pulling your speedo apart.
Stiff accelerator pedal is the throttle bodies not adjusted correctly, this allows the throttle plates to close too far and bind in the housing. Check out the service manual in the tech section for how to adjust them, section EM23.
cheers guys will check the connection and clean them up a bit if this helps and will check the tech section was part of aus starlet club but they tech section never been working
As well as checking your throttle body adjustments per drz400y's advice I would be checking this too. It's a metal pipe attached to the RHS intake cam cover, part of your PCV system. It can come adrift and foul on the throttle linkage.
Or It could be you throttle cable. See if you can get in contact with any forum members in your area and ask them to look at it for you.
2nd MickW suggestion, we've had a couple of guys have throttle jammed ON due to this, yours could be heading there
