Well I guess I've well and truly been bitten by the Z32 bug, I got approved for my loan just the other day and now I have the $$$ to purchase another Z32 :zlove: Anyway, I'm after a few opinions. Here's my criteria that I'm trying to follow: 1: Has to be an NA. 2: Has to be a Targa Top. 3: Pretty much has to be Manual Transmission. 4: My limit is about 9 grand. 5: I'd prefer a 2 seater, but I could be persuaded by a nicely setup 4 seater. 6: Not too concerned about Interior condition and trim-type, since 95% of my trim from the TT 2 Seater Slicktop will be coming across into it (TT is becoming my little track/weekend weapon) 7: I really like them in Black and quite like them in Red, don't really want another Silver one since we've already got 3 silver cars parked in the driveway LOL. (change would be nice! ) There's a couple of interstate one's which I don't mind such as this one which ticks all the boxes, might be able to negotiate him down a bit too: http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars...lcarhome&__Nne=15&trecs=17&__sid=11D8B3F6159A But... Is it worth it travelling interstate? Google maps says it's a 20hr drive one way from Pakenham, Vic to Ballina NSW. Which means cheap overnight accomodation, flights up, (and back perhaps if things don't work out) Victorian RWC costs, Petrol etc. Also I've been quoted $750 to have the car delivered to Melbourne via freight if I didn't want to drive it back which isn't too bad. That would mean flights up and back which is around the $400 mark return so I guess the initial cheap outlay for the car is negated by the extra $$$ it takes to get up there and get the car back right? There's a nice red 4 seater in Craigieburn too, here's the link: http://carpoint.com.au/all-cars/pri...0&seot=1&__Nne=15&trecs=37&__sid=11FA079CD69B And lastly there's a junker on eBay for $4k negotiable: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nissan-300zx...QcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Cars?hash=item4a9bb25c6e However it doesn't come with a RWC or Rego, paint looks like crap, interior is shocking but that doesn't bother me much, and I could put the wheels and tyres from my existing one on it. The way I see it, I could get it dirt cheap, line up a bodykit from COZ while the Aussie$ is so great, have it resprayed and looking beautiful (in theory!) and theoretically come out infront. But being a $4k Zed it's a bit of a lucky dip right? It could have low compression and be a proper junker. But I'm pretty ok when it comes to working with Zed's (had my other one down to the bare heads for instance) so I figure anything short of rebuilding the block I can tackle myself. Sooo based on this and everyone's past experiences, if you were in my shoes, what would you do? Any input would be greatly appreciated!! :zlove: :help:
Im in pretty much the same boat as you, looking for an NA manual... If that $4k red one where in NSW id consider that, its been for sale for ever so you may even be able to pick it up cheaper then that... If you know your way around zeds then it might be a good cheap pickup. That black one you showed is 10 bloody hours away from me so its to close to fly but too far to drive haha.
if you wait about 2-3 months mine will be on the market and satisfies every single one of you requirements :zlove:
But summer will nearly be over and I won't be able to take the Targa's off by then without freezing my ass off! Lol. You're in Brissie too, I really like driving but 25 hrs of driving could get tedious haha. If I'm still looking by then I'll definately consider yours if it's up for grabs, one thing about buying off this forum is 90% of the time you're buying from an enthusiast who babies their car which is great piece of mind. :zlove:
Yeah, being no RWC or Rego is such a gamble though, he does say major service done - I'm only guessing that means the 100k service... Could be a good pickup for $2.5 - $3k? As far as I know though the car could be a collaboration of stolen bits and pieces which was used in a hit 'n run! (slight exaggeration)
If I were you I'd get something else. What's the point in owning 2 (or three ) of the same car? I can understand some people are more passionate about Zeds than I ever was... but I don't understand the mentality. Variety is the spice of life after all. My 2c, Adam.
I've currently got an Auto TT Slicktop so I want a Manual NA Targa, and plan on turning the slicktop into a bit of a hobby/track/motorkana toy. So if I get another one, I can shoehorn all the luxuries across into the NA and turn that into a very comfortable daily. All in theory anyway. I did look at a whole range of other cars but nothing really comes close for value in that price range! And I've gained so much knowledge on 300ZX's I almost know then like the back of my hand now so maintenance is a piece of cake. Plus this forum is a WEALTH of knowledge and I reckon I'd be hard pressed to find another car forum that suited my tastes with a comprehensive tech section like this.
I think I'll be going for the one in Ballina, had a good think about it and I'm not sure if I want to take on the previous owners problems with the $4000.00 one. This just means flights up and back, and driving or freighting the thing back down to Melbourne <Sigh> so I guess I'll have to allow at least a Grand for that.
... re the zed in Ballina ... perhaps Forum members, DinoZ (maclean) and/or hpcoolahan(yamba), might be able to do an initial check for you .....
Someone's gotta throw in the boring advice.... If I was in your shoes I would wait until I can afford another Zed and save the loan for something important.
re that "junker" on ebay. the guy is actually a member and it's listed here without much success. http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=291883 http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=287083
If you're willing to consider a slicktop then my zed ticks almost all the boxes except it's white. c'arn!
That would be incredibly nice of them to do that if they were able. This forum's great. :zlove: Anyway, bumpin' this up! I've crunched some numbers and it will cost me between $1500 and $2k to get the car back to Pakenham I reckon, taking into account flights, freighting or driving the car, plus Victorian rego on top of all that. Ugh. Barely makes it worthwhile. So I was farting around on ebay and came across this little Gem! I know how much Chrispy likes Aw11's http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Toyota-MR2-1...QcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Cars?hash=item3ef9a1875a Hopefully going to have a look at it tomorrow or over the weekend, it's got all the options and I reckon this thing would be a bag of fun! Ha. Oh and a lot cheaper than another Z32, and it's in Melbourne. Piece of cake!
