My Z is sick again. About a month ago had trouble with the Z, every time I started the car would cut out as soon as I took my foot off the excelerator. The mechanic said that it was dumping fuel in the system and that I should replace the coil packs. This I did with used packs from J spec. Today great Perth weather took it out for a cruise (seen a grey z getting towed on the freeway)got home left it for a while now I have the exact problem again:wacko:. Any ideas I'm not to techno.:thumbsdown:

seems it could be a few things, surprised the mechanic suggested such an expensive one to try first.

"every time I started the car would cut out as soon as I took my foot off the excelerator."

do you mean when cold or all the time?

anyway look in the tech section under hesitation, there should be 2 guides on it.

I remember your previous post for the coil packs

Like I said then, its very rare for anything to cause these to fail, other than PTU. One is a possibility but all of them needing replacement must be extremely unlikely. Who is your mechanic?
I would think that you need to first check error codes, then check for boost leaks, then I would check your base idle. My first guess is that your base idle is set too low.

Let the car get warm, unplug the idle control connector and see what happens. Adjust the idle via the screw until it gets to spec (750 rpm I think). Then reinsert the control connector.

    stalling (hesitaion)

Have read the aticles on hesitaion. The car has only just started doing this and wont run long enoogh to get hot. Just starts then cuts out as soon as you take your foot off. The discharge out the exaust is damp.

If it runs fine when you have your foot on the gas, it cant be your packs

    :)

Have you done a leak test? I know when I had a big leak my car would stall.

    AAC

I would check for corroded connections to the Auxiliary Air Control valve. These commonly get corroded resulting in no tickover.

    Seconded

AAC valve opens when throttle closes, i.e. 'foot of the gas', to maintain air flow and prevent stalling.

See EF & EC section of FSM for full details.
