    Hey all,

Long time no post, been flat out at a new job for a while, seems like an eternity since I last worked on my Z :(

Well as the title says, got baby #1 on the way, so unfortunately I am stuck in a hard place right now... my 1990 NA 2+2 Aus delivered is in need of an engine transplant and some other work, I bought an engine of aazn god knows how long ago, and still have not dropped it in, never have the time which sucks

I have a few of options I guess, sell all the parts I have aquired for this project and get rid of the car, which won't sell for much in it's present state (maybe time to just cut my losses as the car was never in great condition from the moment I bought it 9 or so years ago).

Get the engine installed by someone who knows what they are doing - 2 options, mechanic or someone from the forum who is interested and knows what they are doing and would like to earn some $$ - I'd prefer the 2nd option if anyone is interested?? Idealy if I can get this project going with someone who is keen to do it I would like to see the car as a going concern, not just parted out and trashed... plus I obviously don't mind how long the job takes, car has been in the garage for so long I cant remember how long!

or if anyone has any other ideas? roll it down the street and set fire to it all and walk away lol

Car has a lot of fond memories attached to it, hence I have never given up on it yet, but with a baby on the way and work keeping me flat out I just cant see myself getting anywhere with it :/

    any thoughts or ideas appreciated..

    cheers!

How long until the baby comes along?

Any chance of getting some progress done before "it" arrives?

    Need to ask your self..

    1. Do I need the money.

    2. If I need the moeny how quick do I need it. Do I have time to fix it?

You have a 2+2, maybe push it down the back and work on it again when your kid grows up :) Then you can cruise all together :) That's what I'm in the process of doing..

hey guys thanks for the replies so far :)

unfortunately my job keeps me flat out and I can't see that changing anytime soon, I have until Jan before my world gets turned upside down :) Don't get me wrong, I am stoaked we are having a kid, really looking forward to it!

when I bought the engine I was at a different job which kept me in normal hours and with plenty of free time... unfortunately it also didn't pay so well and I never got all the parts I needed to finish the project before I got the new job, now I have more money but no time, go figure :p

I dont 'need' the money, sure would make it easier down the track I guess, but as it stands it is not costing me anything (no rego/insurance on it) only thing thats costing me is the parts I keepy buying to complete the project, and the depreciation of the car and parts (eh cars thats a fact of life heh)

I dont think I can justify the cost of sending this to a mechanic to get it on the road as I can see that being a small fortune, although maybe not if anyone knows a good mechanic in Melbourne that doesnt charge like a wounded bull for Z work... if there is someone however that does work out of their own shed or something and wants a longer term project like this I would be happy to send the car to them, help out where I can and pay for parts and time that are put in to get it back on the road for me...

at this stage I think besides the engine swap, it needs a new exhaust system, prefer header back from the new TTZ headers I have for it, AIV removal, EGR removal (have a nistune fitted ECU for those mods) front and rear bars need respraying, drivers seat needs to be replaced, and some minor enterior trim work... I'm not sure what this work is going to cost, probably a few grand I would imagine... which I obviously don't have on hand or I would take it to a mechanic and get it all done!

I even have a bunch of parts like tail lights and a head light that I dont need, bought for projects that once again I don't have time for, I should dig them all out and see what they are worth, perhaps they can be used for some money to help the project along... hmmm

as you can see I really am undecided with what I want to do here haha

Talk to Bryan (Brytech). He is our local zed specialist and has a huge knowledge about zeds. Talk to him and see if he can put the zed back together and make it running. He is a really nice guy and really fun to talk to. He should be able tp help you and have it ready so whene your baby is here, the whole family can go for a drive and cruise in it and make even more memories :) hope you keep the zed and get it running. Goodluck.

Bryan has access to a car trailer, so if your lucky you might be able to get it to get your car down to the zed shed. His prices are really good and he is very trustworthy. I personally wouldnt trust my zed with anybody else but him. If you need a hand with anything please feel free to contact me. Im in Bundoora so not that far.

haha hey man, what did i buy that engine off you for? $500? :p

nah I dunno, the car aint worth much, would be a good project car though I think, relaly just needs the time (and some money obviously) put into it...

I honestly have no idea what everything I have is worth, need to find some time on a sunday to dig out all the bits and make up a spreadsheet or something...
