Some of you may know some probably dont know that my car is getting resprayed black. Okay it has been 6 weeks now and after some heated arguments with the guy that was meant to respray it for me i found out that all that has been done to my car was shaved rear wiper, shaved antenna, and fix couple of dents...after 6 weeks i have been mislead and lied to that my car is getting this and that its nearly finished and blah blah.

Last night i messeged him, as he dose not answer his phone and told him that tomorow i want to see my car(mind you i have not seen it once in the past 6 weeks) and if it is not ready by next weekend to give me my money back and i will take it somewhere else.

I have payed him $2600 so far and today he messeged me back saying "fine" he will take off work monday and tuesday to put it back together(wots there to put back together) and that the panel beater costed him $2,286 and paint $350. So in other words i will not get back shit.

About a week ago, he told me that the panel beater has finished with the car and that it is ready to be painted, and said he payed him $1000 to do the top job he has done with the bodywork...
For 6 weeks i have been in constant stress, he dose not answer his fone, he tells me he will take off work to finish it, he never rings when he says he will, i cannot explain things he says to 'comfort' me that it will get done. I have asked him when will it be ready for the last 2 weeks and all i get is..."il talk with my boss when i have my days off", "i will probably have a week off next week", "i will finish work early and have the rest of the weekend to work on your car"
Now...im only 19 and have not had experiences with people that are dishonest and lie to your face, and i dont know what to do...

    Hmm not good dude..

    :( :(
I don't get why he was in charge of paying a panal beater, and he is full of shit (obliously) saying $2,286 for panal beating. Mate, get some friends together and make this lowlife do the work you paid him for. Some people like to take advantage of honest peoples good nature, because they are an easy target, he no doubt thinks your a push over and has basically robbed you. Dont lethim get away with it dude. If you can make it clear to him that if he doesn't do the job to your satisfaction he will regret it. Where is Black baz when you need him  :D :zlove:

Give us a few more details to help you, how much were you quoted for the respray? Are you changing colours? what was supposed to be included (door jambs painted? etc) And how long were you quoted? I have had 2 full resprays with other cars I have owned and both took about 6 months or more BUT I was told that up front and was welcome to drop in at anytime to see the progress.

dude 6 weeks aint dat long

my other zed took 11 months, it sat there for 9 months b4 they even started.
panel beaters see resprays as gauranteed work, so they rather do small jobs first. i also made a mistake of paying upfront like u just 2 hurry them up, it done the reverse. lucky i found out my uncle knew da guy or else they would have taken 2 years. i was quoted 2-3 weeks tops, 4 weeks at worst

    This is the first

I've heard of it being usual for it to take such a long time for a respray. I would never wait 6 months or even 6 weeks for a respray, especially not having my car in someone eles's posestion for that amount of time. A reputable shop would have scheduled estimated time table for completion of a car, ready for the next project right? I would rather paint it my self than wait a few months... Just my opinion....

    question

is this actually a shop or a mate?

    1) hes saying 'ill take time off work to finish it' which means its not his day job... so is it a mates backyard job?

    2) like said before you want to have some major bodywork damage to cost $2300+

Sorry to here of your delema,
First thing I would be doing is go see the panel beater myself and ask for itemised account of what he has done to your car. Then show it to the other guy so he knows you know how much it realy cost. After that try to find someone reputable to finish the job.
I just picked my car up yesterday from spray painters, only took them 4 weeks, full bare metal respray, change of coulor, door jams, rust removed, brazilan the lot. I was welcome to drop in and see it at any time.

    Same Issue

The guy that sprayed my car new it was work gaurranted, so he kept doing work on other cars and took his time with mine, was in the workshop for months, with all types of things like I am busy will get around to it etc. As it cost me dearly by having it sit there, I took the brunt. The next time he did work for me I gave him a time frame and every day he was late the quote was knocked off by $100 per day, each time he broke his promise.

Welcome to the world of dicky trades people

    my question

why black, sure its a nice colour but your car looked beaut as is?

Because Black is the best color! (Baz will be along shortly :p )

I had damage rapaired and the entire car resprayed in gloss black (from gunmetal grey) for about $2600. The best thing, it took 2 weeks, twice as long as promised but I couldn't complain with that :zlove:

Why do people pay for these things up front...

Half decent tradespersons, workshops or what ever, usually wont ask for cash up front,

How may threads have been posted,, I paid this guy and the works c%#P or not done...

DONT pay up front, then the sooner the work is done the sooner they get paid, worksops run on 30 day accounts... No big issue..

Okay thanks heaps for everyones input. He is not answering fone calls and i cannot contact him. I will send him a msg ask why is he keeping the $2300 as it dose not cost that much to plug and sand a few holes and i will tell him that i will be contacting the police and dep. of fair trading on monday.
Now he told me my car is in pieces and that it will take him 2 days to put it back together, and i dont understand what pieces as he has not sprayed anything, but never the less on wednesday i am taking my car back whatever state it is in.
I am so dissapointed and shoked that someone could just do that...lie and lie without any remorse and take advantage.
Came to the conclusion that if he dose not want to repay me some of the money then i cannot do anything about it, taking him to court would cost me more than i would receive back anyway.
Ohh and without him seeing the car he told me 2 weeks, after he saw it and told him what i want done, 3 weeks. It was a full respray, interior as much as possible(under trims, door jambs) then engine bay as much as possible too. All up was quoted $4000, he said 3 layers of base coat, then 3 of clear coat wetsanded then another 2 of clear coat, wetsanded again, buffed, and polished.
From the start i sent him pictures of collegeboy's zed from the US (widebody) and told him i want it to look the same or even better, and he said no problem.
It was not meant to be a backyard job, because he has worked in the industry before and has showed me pictures of cars he has "done" then later on found out that it was not him doing it all by himself but with other people...so i dont know what he was in charge of, but he still does respray vehicles on the side.
Now i am thinking since i will have the zed back, i would like to do all the prep work myself, but i dont know how to or what is involved in it. If some of the more experienced guys that are into this could point me in the right direction i would be very gratefull.
This is not going to stop me, the zed is still swiching to the DARK SIDE :D :(

i have to disagree with that cos now this guy is a bit pissed off which means he wont do a good job anymore (if he was going to do a good job in the first place that is)

A lot of "he said" and "you said"...

But I haven't seen anything with regards to a written contract. Some sort of work order or agreement in writing? Engaging in a costly project like this should always entail some sort of written agreement/contract. There are those that will bypass these sorts of things in an effort to save a few hundred bucks, but is it really worth it in the end. Verbal contracts are a little difficult to resolve, especially when one has given a substantial amount "up front". Never pay more than half up front for anything. A reliable and trustworthy extablishment should be able to cover the overhead for any project it has accepted. This might be one of those lessons learned 101 things to remember for the future.

Yeah i realised that now, although he gave me receipts for the money i have paid, that is the only written evidence i have.
I dont give a shit how pissed off he is, i cannot trust him anymore and i just want my car back, whatever state it is in. He wont be touching it anymore.
To make matters worst (or maybe its for the better) i have just found out that i got caught by a speed camera during a public holiday so that is 6 demerit points, which means loss of license for 3 months, so now i have time to save up some more money and do some other things to id before i commit to respray it. Now im thinking taking off rear spoiler and installing the third brake infill panel, but we will see once i get the car back tuesday or wednesday
