i've been looking into getting a twin turbo motor for my z for a while now, and now i have the money to get one!! i just want to know what tests i should get done on the engine and what to look out for when buying the new tt motor? i know i need to run a compression test on it and i will make sure that i will run one but what i dont know is the results that should come up for a god engine? i've never done one before. also what should i get replaced on the car while the engine is out? regards, Cleary
i seem to remember the TT was 186 and NA was 185 or something stupidly close to that... again.. search will reveal all.
yeh well i asked and got told it was around 160ish....? anything i need to look out for? or do to see if the engine is worth buying?
Yeah its not possible for the compression tests to be the same 'stock' with different compression ratios. Josh knows that.. he`s just having an off day. How much do you want to spend?
it is if its a mint car lol.. but i doubt it... but he was asking what is stock.. not that he will get it but stock was never 165... jaybos new engine is 175 all round..
willing to spend about $4500 to $5000 but i know i will be more cause i'm getting a new clutch aswell. but that includes the engine and everything. got a quote for about $4000 but to leave another $500 for any extra shit that i may need to replace but that was without the clutch and he sed he would put that in for free when hes working
depends what you wanna do.. 100k service, UDP, WODP, Plenum Pull, Heater hoses, Theres 1200+ dont skimp and do it properly.. don't have to go all out.. but properly..

hey mate, i'm going through this at the moment, i searched as many threads as i could on this and saw a lot of people throwing the figure around of $4-5k. depends what your getting though. if the half cut is going to cost you $4-5k for example, i'd honestly budget for another 1-2k on top of that for all your maintenance, clutch etc. You'd be surprised how quick it adds up, and not only that, think of the indirect costs such as tools, oil, engine stand, engine crane (maybe), boost gauge, dumps, test pipes. i'm doing the plenum pull, but also doing the 100,000km service. the engine looks sweet to me, but i don't want to take any chances. also i'm doing a few things that while i could just leave till later once the motor is in, but it is so easy working on these motors when they are out i'd rather spend more money now, do it myself, and it be easy, than do it later and spend so much time cutting up my hands, breaking things etc. I've done a plenum pull before, and there are some real bitch bolts to get to - with the engine out it is so easy! so literally, add another 1-2k on top of that so you have a bit extra to play with, can buy proper parts and do it properly. if your going to this much effort to swap an engine, may as well go all out. if your going to be a bear, be a grizzly!
yeah man no shit i want to do everything while i can when i have the motor out i just need to get the funding first:zlove::zlove: i would do the 100k service while the motor was out but was maybe thinking of holding a tech day for the plenum pull...?just to learn more about my car, not sure tho if anyone would come tho...?
