    Hey guys,

Firstly I'd like to introduce myself. My name's Cameron and I live up in Mackay, QLD. I've always loved cars, mostly driving them but since getting into Formula 1 in 2010, I've developed a bit more of a passion. Also, I've trolled around the forums since I registered, but never really posted before.

I'm currently on my green P's and go onto my opens on November 8th this year, so I decided to finally get something I can work on and get my hands dirty with.
I do understand these cars require maintenance and can be frustrating at times due to the room in the engine bay, but I couldn't pass it up because I find the car absolutely stunning.

I've gone out and bought a 1990 Z32 TT for 3 grand, which may or may not have been a good buy.. But I'll let you be the judge of that. The car has quite a bit of front end damage but as you'll see in the photos we've already started taking it apart.

I've got a bit of a shopping list already, but we're doing a full service on the car next weekend, windscreen is all cracked so I'll get someone out to do that and I'll be ordering my new front bumper tomorrow.. haven't really decided which one I'm going to get yet.

Any tips, see anything you'd like better photos of or something you see that might cause me any major problems let me know.

Photos were taken with a dodgy camera, once I find my DSLR charger I will get some better ones.

    Enjoy

Kakimoto exhaust stickers - I'll assume it's a Kakimoto exhaust, but I don't know if you guys can tell just from these photos.

Hatch rusting where the lip has been taken off

Interior - Carpets are in alright condition, but there are a lot of broken screw holders and the wrong screws everywhere.. I'm going to have to replace a lot of this. The most annoying thing is the modules beside the steering wheel are loose and have screws missing/plastics broken.

Seats to be re-upholstered. Unless I buy some cheap sparco seats from CZP

Shot of the engine bay, nothing close yet.. but we've already removed the front bumper, which is busted up and I need to replace indicators etc. on it

Finally, pod under that front panel.. we'd already taken off one of the BOV's on this side and have since removed the other one to make room for some new ones. Going on the cheaper side with these, but I'll probably get the Greddy BOVs off CZP to replace these.

    Welcome to our madness!
Looks like a fair bit off work, but will turn out very nice im sure of it!
Defs looks like a genuine kakimoto exhaust, just be careful because there prone to getting holes from rust at the joins.

    Welcome to the forum! :D

Exhaust looks identical to mine, should have the kakimoto logo stamped on the muffler on the inside (opposite side to the sticker, but further back)

Wow, I remember seeing this car advertised. Looks like it needs a lot of work. Good luck, you'll need it. I've got a heap of parts and am in Rocky too if you ever need anything.

    Anti 14.7 x 14.7 = 44.1

    What a beater. Why?

edit: I just realised when work began on my car it had shitty black paint, body damage and a red vinyl interior too. Disregard.

Welcome to the asylum. Looks like you've got a job on your hands there, but if you have the passion, (and it looks to me like you may do) you'll get there.

    Hey guys,

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

I'm planning on ordering a few things today, so I'll post what I end up purchasing.

ryzan, you wouldn't have any interior plastics? I might put a list up of what I'm actually chasing when I go through them and figure out what's going on. A heap of the panels just fell off, there's broken screw mounts and the screws that have been put in are definitely not the correct ones in some areas, some of them even look like timber screws.

Sure do have a mission here Cam, good thing there is some knowledge around here.

Just to update anyone on this, and get some info back too.

had a look at it on the weekend, and there are a few issues. had codes 11 and 13 and wouldnt start.

checked the cas connector (its busted and needs to be replaced) and cleaned it best i could, car now starts, although a cylinder isn't firing properly.

Checked the connectors for the coil pack/checked for spark and its there, so im going to assume its an issue with fuel delivery (probably connectors)

I used to get all this stuff from Caz, but it looks like she is closed down.

So where is the best place to get all this stuff (is there still anyone in aus)

can never get rid of that :zlove:

Just some basic stuff ordered. Injector rails too.

That s2 injector rail won't fit your s1 engine, and those ebay copy bomex front bars are known for horrible fitment.

No worries. Cancelled this and have been refunded.

I will just grab the bar regardless, if its still horrible after fitting I'll buy the stillen one from CZP

    Hey guys,

Just wanted to quickly update you.

    I've ordered the following parts:

    - Replacement front left headlight (Received)
    - Replacement Altezza chrome indicators/bumper lights (Received)
    - Ebay Bomex front bumper (Received) Note: I'll most likely have it professionally fitted after seeing what people have said.
    - Ebay Fake HKS BOV's x 2
    - Reo bar and SMICs from Romonski
    - Series 2 PTU from zed280zx
    - Injector Connector set from black bez (Received)
    - OEM Injectors and rail from Chilledpain
    - Plenum Pull parts from CZP
    - Replacement housing for the climate control pod from CZP
    - Various screws for the interior from CZP
    - Battery bracket (original is gone) from CZP

I realise that none of this is too interesting as it's mostly just replacement OEM gear.

Also I've run into an error code 13 for coolant temp sensor. Big thanks to grantd for lending me his ECUTalk cable and a spare working coolant temp sensor, but I think it might be the wiring because it's still throwing an error.. After cleaning terminals and replacing the sensor, what would you recommend me looking at next?

Also I'm doing a test run plasti dipping some of the interior plastics.. I'll post some pictures when i'm home.

    Thanks

To test the wires to the coolant temp sensor grab a multimeter and test the resistance(ohms) of pin 28 of the ecu harness connector and ground, should be about 1.5 at room temperature. Then test the wires from the sensor end and check if your getting voltage from the ecu, should be around 5 volts with the ignition on.

Cheers, I'll get my room mate to test it tonight.
If we get any of the parts by the weekend (unlikely) we'll begin pulling the plenum off so we can start replacing connectors

  16. mrkarter77

    mrkarter77 No Really, They do!!!

Ok, so removed the plenum, did the gaskets and water/vac lines, put it all together and is running, (roughtly, need to adjust idle and redo a couple of connectors with clips etc)

One thing i found frustrating, is checking that hoses are right...

i found that the guide shows how to pull it apart, but doesn't clearly show where some hoses go.

Particularly on the drivers side (rhd) where the cruise normally is (camerons is missing) is there any shots that show this clearer (drivers side rear of engine under plenum to engine hoses)

also the vac lines (there are 2 there that i may have wrong)

    Can anyone clarify?

EDIT: [IMG] That image above number 9 the vac hose, i have it going across the the solenoid? (thingy with a connector, im guessing solenoid or pressure sensor)
also the bolts in 6, there is vac hardlines, top one to under the throttle body, bottom to the turbo pipe below?

Also forgot, we have 3 connectors on the harness (similar shape to coil packs, but 2 pin)

but only can find 2 places to plug in, the 2 cam sensors (i think they are, back of engine, one a side)

No.9 is a water hose to drivers turbo. Have you done the plenum water hose bypass. If so it attaches to a barb on the passenger side heater hose pipe C
    [IMG]

Electrical connector could be detonation sensor plug, yellow dot

Nah, didnt do the bypass, just a straight replacement of things.
And you might have misread, Not the water hose in 9, we put that one there, its the little pipe above, its a vac hose into the plenum.

Ahhhh. If I remember correctly it goes to EGR solenoid that's bolted to the back of the drivers side shock tower below the cruise control.

That is for the EGR valve. It runs around the back if the plenum and is joined to the valve by a vacuum line. The EGR solenoid (over near the brake booster & reservoir) has three nipples; two on the top and one on the bottom. The exposed end of the hard line in your picture should be joined to the lower of the two nipples on the top of the EGR solenoid via a 4mm vacuum line.
