Well, on sunday some of us melbourne folk went to Morwell to watch pete (WYKKED) compete in the hill climb at the Gippsland motor sport complex. The day was organised by NDSOC (nissan datsun sports owners club) which most of us were members of anyway. The guys in attendance were pete (WYKKED, obviously), me (JEDI-77), mikey (RedZedMikey), max (Max's Z), jack (zxtt-1), gerhard (Gerhard) and later on paul (PLAYRZ). Also there was Jen, alex and stacey who completed the WYKKED clan..:) Anyway, below are some pics....

The meeting place was the Hallam Hotel car park. A nice assortment of nissan/datsun cars were present. Saturdays never ending rain meant some of the cars were filthy, so I didnt feel so bad having possibly the dirtiest car there.

The one hour cruise to Morwell was quite nice.

We finally got there, no thanks to max who was our leader and drove straight past the entrance..:) Although the event was a nissan/datsun club event it sort of had an aus300zx feel to it. Maybe cos we parked all next to each other?? (except for gerhard who parked further down)

There were a whole range of cars there ranging from the 50's down to the 1990's. I filled my camera's 256mb memory card with pics so there's no way I can show them all here. Here's just a selection.

This was a very nice 240z....

I couldnt believe this thing was on the track. From what I could make out it looked like a 4 door valiant of some sort. But it hammer....

The day finished at about 3:30pm. It was still early, so we went for a cruise to Kurumburra (spelling????). Nice curvy roads, nice weather, and some fine zeds made for awesome driving. It was a fantastic day and congrats to pete for his effort and times in the hill climb...:)

Oh and mikey and jack, I made it home with 546kms out of a full tank. The fuel light came on at 521km's..:)

    Cheers

    Its just an AVI file.....

On my computer, it works if I view it using either Quicktime or Windows Media player. I dont think it needs a special codec....

    Nice job Marky....

its a shame it took over an hour to get all the pics and 30 minutes for the vid  . But it was worth it :zlove: , looks great and what a great day it was:thumbsup: . Nice to catch up with fellow zed members and have a pretty good chat.

    Max:thumbsup:

    P.S. i know i was a bad leader , but i was expecting a big sign and not a 30 x 30cm sign.

Nah, theres some sort of compression on there...

...I get sound but no video using Windows Media Player and PowerDVD. What program did you use to create the avi?

    red32 You talkin' to me?

    Sorry I couldn't make it

but I worked Midnight to 0830 on the day. Thought about coming, but would have been a bit dangerous driving home after nearly 24hours without sleep and it was raining in Epping (so I assumed it was raining everywhere).
Great pics, Mark. Saw that HZ Monaro LE on the Morwell Car Club cruise last month. . . its a beast. There's so much room in the engine bay, if you looked down, you could actually see the road underneath!!! Did you see the stereo setup in the boot? Looks great but it rattles a bit with base boost.

    Cheers,

    Hmmmm........

The movie clip is straight off my Canon Powershot S50. I havent edited or tampered with it. I'm not really sure. Is it working for anyone else?? I just opened it on the computer at work, which has got XP installed but no fancy codecs and it worked fine. I dont know, computers are like girls sometimes.....

    Cheers

    What a top day......>>

After all the rain on Saturday I was a little worried about getting washed off the track on Sunday, or of getting bogged if I came off the track, but the day was a beauty with sunshine for most of it and just a hint of rain around lunch time. It was great to see so many members making the effort to drive down and while I know they didn't come down just to see me it does encourage me to know that there is some support for the Zed in the crowd. Maybe next time we might entice a couple of them to get out on the track.

The track is really hard to describe if you havn't seen it as it is far tighter in person then the pictures show it. After spending the morning helping out with the scrutineering I didn't get a chance to have a walk around the track as I'd wanted to. Luckily with such a small field we were all given two observation laps before the timed laps got under way. My first time on the start line I selected first and when given the nod by the starter took off conservatively up the hill, but nothing happened. I thought I'd broken something as the revs just rose effortlesly and car just crawled forward. Then the back end started to swing off to the left and I got my first taste at just how little traction there was. Traction, and trying to get/hold it was the quest for the day. Trying to get off the line was next to impossible, as well as accelerating out of corners. That little video of Marks gives a good example of this, you can clearly hear the over rev in the last 5 seconds as I try to get power down out of the crossover section.

My times for the day were (as far as I'm concerned) quite acceptable considering I had never seen the track before and most other competitors had. I'm not certain because I havn't seen the official results but I believe I came second in my class, beaten by a Triumph TR7 equiped with a 289 Ford motor, running R comp tyres. The last offical times I saw had him just under 1 second in front of me after the morning and I think I matched him in the afternoon.

    Morning times - standard layout.
    • 44.xx
    • 42.xx
    • 41.xx

    Afternoon times - reverse layout.
    • 64.xx
    • 62.xx
    • 60.xx

Sorry, I can't remember the 100th second times so I've just put down xx. As you can see I was progressively getting better which is the only thing I care about, not winning doesn't bother me but as long as I am improving I'm happy. Big thankyou to Jen for helping get the car (and me as I wasn't too well the day before) ready for the event, and also to those who took pictures and videos, I'll post up a couple of my own tonight when I have time to download them.

Finished off the day with a great little drive through some wonderful scenic roads surrounded by zeds....who could ask for more.

Currently a set of Toyo Proxes T1-S, which are very nice but are not in the same class as an R series tyre. One day I'll spend the money on a second set of rims with a set of Advans or, similar but till then I'll just have to deal with a bit of slip'n'slide.

have you use R compounds on your zed before? there worth every cent! makes

a huge difference to lap times..... but also hurts the wallet alot too :p

But have heard that they are one of the biggest changes you can make. One day I will get a set, and then learn how to use them.
