Just bought my first z and everytime i turn the key in the on position, the mast comes right out, seems to me that there's something missing some kind of rubber to stop the mast to fall out once extended. Please help:)

seems rather odd... possibly just needs a new rod/mast? my one shat itself 2 years ago (motor died) so i pushed a stretched out coathanger into the plug and ran it along back of car. works perfect and i dont have to see an antenna sticking out of my car (uglyyyyyyyyy)

Please, please, pretty please show us some pics of your coat hanger spec antenna. Has it got crochet or lace covering on it ? ( please say yes )

Hey MadDog, welcome to the forum.
There is a good article on repairing / overhauling the antenna, start playing with the search function & checking the Tech section.
Guarranteed to save you a lot of money and man hours once you learn how to use them.

    Cheers from Mick.

Hey Mick, thanks for the info, will check it out. the antenna works fine goes up and down, but too far up and causes the mast to pop right out. Is there a rubber of some sort on the mottom of the mast??? Cheers

    Could be the mast guide

Hi Maddog. If you go into the tech section and go 'A-Z Everything in Here' -> 'Aerial' -> 'Antenna Mast Problems'. Have a look at the very bottom pic. It shows the mast plus the small guide (about 2 inches long) and it is this that holds the mast in place. This could be missing.

These are cheap to replace. Might be able to get one from a local supplier such as Nissan or CazRacing (member Caz1 on here), but you could also get one from ConceptZ in the US. Cheap and quick delivery. Linky for more info HERE

Hey Bigcol, this is it, just saw it in the tech section, the little guide about 2'' long. I'm on it, thanks for your help.
    Cheers and drive safe

might also want to disconnect it from the accessory power feed if it comes on every time you turn the key on... should be connected to the power antenna feed coming off the back of the stereo head unit.

No need to cross the pond to get some water.

The antenna mast is easy to get locally as it's used in the Patrol. Ask for AP252 at your local car radio specialist.

the AP252 does not come with the little antenna guide...
they are the only aftermarket replacement mast that does not come with it, (that i know of) no idea why but they dont.

    Correctamondo!

Chances are that the guide is still in place and has bent or broken the little "wiper slide" strip that presses against the mast(and hits the brass end cap, causing the mast to stop). If this is the problem, you can use a Dremel Tool cutting disc to cut two parallel length-wise slices about 3-4mm apart(and about 15mm long)from the lower end of the guide, up toward the centre. Bend this 3-4mm strip slightly inwards so that it rubs against the mast and catches against the end cap(brass lip). I had to do this on mine about 5 years ago, and it still works perfectly.:zlove::zlove:

Hey Chili, sounds like a good plan, i might just do that. Has spent the last 4 hrs also going from shops to shops to buy that little guide, but in vain. I was just about to buy an aftermarket antenna and replace the one on the Z. Cheers

I hope COZ is paying you a commission, you rotten sod. After not being able to find these sleeves for the past several years, you pop up with advice and a link to ConceptZedPerformance.
I have now purchased said Aerial Guide and several other things I didn't know I wanted(damn you, and your advice).:p:zlove::zlove::rofl::rofl:
