manually switch on the thermo fan without tuning on any accessories?

an interesting (maybe useful) find. may worth to share.

One day, I was playing with my water temp gauge, wondered could I get the signal from the stock sender.
So i connected the gauge (T-joint to the coolant wire) to the ecu coolant temp pin.
Well, the gauge got the signal and it worked! At the same time I also realized the thermo fan was on.
After a few tests I confirmed I could switch on the thermo fan manually under any temperature by connecting it to my temp gauge.

Now I have modified it, so I can switch on the thermo fan via a button on the dash. :) The good thing is, when I feel the car need to cool down, I dont have to wait the ecu give the signal or turn on any accessories.

if you think this is something stupid or useless, please dont laugh :zlove:

    thats...odd. but strangely cool :zlove:

Not a good idea at all. What you are doing is giving the ECU a full ground (-ve) signal. This tells the ECU that the engine is really hot and as such the ECU takes steps to cool the engine down and this is not limited to the aux fan but also modifies ignition timing, idle speed and fuel settings.

These engines are meant to operate in the range of 80-90C so unless you are frequently exceeding this temperature everything is fine.

2nded Karl. Best way is to run a separate wire from aux fan relay into cabin via a switch to an earth.

your basically forcing the engine into a safe mode. CTS error. your better off running the thermo fan via a relay and a seperate switch

Actually that's not correct Simo. This does not force a code 21 as that indicates an open circuit. What Lovic has done is made a direct circuit by bypassing the resistance made by the thermocouple.
