i actually switched out to a manual rack and pinion so i have no power steering. and with that the steering linkage moved alittle further towards the engine, opening a nice hole between the frame rail and the (please never mind the greaseness of my cross member) the space were your turbo is will be ocupied by my waiste gate.............

This ttnet's username was "madtdogs" a while back, his new username is "1badz32 (MN)" in case you want to do some searching on it

he did a single turbo conversion DIY style:

    Flop a lot of work

I am very interested in the steering rack and details as would be much lighter and interested to see how it steers when you finally get it going. Looks like major project you are doing here.

Nah that's not my work - i found those pics on TTnet whilst I was searching for tech guides on modifying the power steering pump to remove hicas

when i was a bum uni student, i had a nissan pulsar without power steering and i loved the feedback i could get thru my hands - it seems that u can feel when the tyres are slipping etc the feedback is just so direct...

but in the zed (power steering) i don't get that direct feel... i broke a PS belt a while back and drove without it - parking was a bitch but highway driving wasn't too bad... however, round-a-bouts felt great if they allowed almost a straight line thru because when you're pushing it u can feel what the front is doing

I'm guessing the hydraulics in the power steering setup remove some of the small vibrations that you normally feel when the front wheels lose traction sideways

i can't say that the above is fact cos i'm not certain myself - it's just the feeling that i have that i prefer the feel of no power steering when i'm pushing the limits but the daily driver practicality of power steering for parking or turning right at a roundabout...

The only play you will lose is the few degrees of spring in the rotary valve in the powersteering

    There is a difference

I've driven cars without power steering and there is a difference between power steering and no power steering

I've sent an email to the supply of Flamingriver, asking if they do a steering rack for a R/H drive zed

I dont know, you need fairly fast steering in a sports car. I dont think you would be able to keep up in certain situations.

You also need a power steering pump for power steering, but that doesn't help some of us...

look how close the turbo exhaust housing is 2 the timing belt and cas... they would cook that rubber quicker than a oven :eek::eek::eek: i wouldnt trust that setup at ALL... think.. one big boost or dyno run. timing belt MELTS and there goes your engine

The turbo is mounted towards the front of the engine, and the steering rack is located before the engine! Even I can see the relevance, wake up Lloyd! :bash:
