Hey, Im a new member so just let me know if im posting in the wrong spot. I am looking at buying a 300zx from a friend. Its in excellent condition, i have driven it before but there is a minor glitch. He told me that it has a minor electronical fault and something keeps making it go into "safety mode" and it loses power and chews a lot of petrol. Anyone got any ideas on what causes could be? He's selling it to me on the cheap because of this, but id still like to fix it if possible. other than that it drives and handles great, i wouldnt have noticed unless he told me, except that it goes through a lot of fuel. If anyone could help that would be great. Also is there a good place in Australia (Preferably SA) That sells front bumpers to fit a 1989 300zx? I have found lots of places that sell parts, but not body accessories. Thanks guys:)

    Common problem, easy fix.

Most likely det sensor fault or CTS fault. Det sensor can be expensive to replace in factory position, about 6 hrs labour and the sensor can cost $300 odd or it can just be a connector/loom problem (cheap). CTS is generally a connector fault so is fairly easy to fix and cheap as well. If this is honestly the only issues with the car then hey...bargain.

    with andy's post in mind,
tell your friend it's something stupidly expensive to fix..
or just incorporate it in to a 100k service price.

so tell your friend $800-900 and then tell the mechanic to do the 100k service at the same time.
then you'll be real good friends...

    welcome aboard!!!
