I finally got my 300 on Friday yay! the not so yay part is an apparent oil leak leaving a nice blotch where ever i park. I have also noticed the smell of burning oil which I am thinking is the oil falling onto the hot exhaust.. Obviously I am hoping it not to be the main oil seal.. Whats the going price I am up for if it is?

    mines booked in for tomorrow.

is it possible to change the award for this years most popular modification to new rear main seal.

around $400 labour, $40 for the part. thought i was reading that its the same as VL rear main seal $15.

good idea to change clutch while ur there, and driveshaft, should cost too much more in labour, saves u paying for it later too.

we charge about $460 in labour to do the rear main. the seal i think is around $40.

Are you sure it's rear main seal? take a look under the car, if there's oil where the gearbox/engine meet then most likely rear main or maybe front of gearbox seal. Unlucky that it's happened so close to christmas, most places are closing up soon and are really booked solid so might be hard to get it fixed before christmas (i'd recomend Joe Imbesi to you but I think he's got a fair bit of work atm.. i'll ask him tomorrow when i'm down there). if it is rear main you don't want to drive it too much because you could contaminate the clutch with oil and then it'll burn.

here's mine from when i first bought the car:

    oil in my gearbox

    clutch pressure plate (oil spots)

surface cracks on flywheel ( i think due to heat but not sure) these were machined out

keep in mind that these pics are taken after the previous owner drove on it with the leaking main seal for a long time before i bought the car... clutch was just starting to slip when i bought it.

any other symptoms of rear main seal? I had a loose sump plug, finger tight so i am unsure whats going on.
