Hi guys, Inherited a large sub box that doesn't completely fill boot widthwise and slides around during spirited cornering. Haven't really thought of a cheap solution to keep box in place. At time of install, thought coefficient of friction of box was enough to prevent sliding (never took to liking physics, so kept school table moist with drool throughout class.) Considered perhaps a set of screws to underside (on 3 piece cardboard cover,) but does not seem strong enough to support force of moving mass. I'm not entering any audio contests anytime soon, so looks are purely an afterthought. Box seems to be of good build, and subs output enough bass to satisfy me. Due to cost, or lack thereof, could not refuse the set, nor am I eager to fabricate/source any mods for flush install. Never gave much thought to audio on car, but nice beats seem to drown out effect of economic slump If there's a generic way to keep sub boxes in place, I'll be happy to find out. Worst-case scenario, I'll use box in place of gravity balls as used in Tsuchiya's bible to fine-tune drifting prowess. But then again, I shouldn't be drifting around every corner to prevent box slide. Cheers, Joe PS This is for a 2 seater.
all i did in my lancer was got the sticky velco stuck both sticky bits together then lifted the box up, and got a helping hand 2 place a few strips of it on the bottom of the box, then placed the box back where i want it and pushed down, simple and it works, just go 2 coles its like 2 buck 4 everything
i love this forums solutions rofl velcro ,that will work out well in an accident wont it ,screw the thing down and save your head
Hehe, I did that with my 6x9 boxes on the parcel shelves. It works fine for corners, but of course it won't hold in an accident. Mine are now screwed down, but if the subs in the back, maybe it would be ok in an accident. In any case, velcro strips are better than nothing.
If you have a rear strut brace you can strap the box to it. Or you can go to Bunnings, grab some blocks of wood and make them up to fit the gaps on either side of the box. Paint/carpet the blocks to look like your box and you'll be right
I stra mine down with the targa straps (who knows why they came in a slicktop ) they hold it down good while it's sitting in the shed waiting for me to get off my arse and finish it
haha maybe they're "cargo straps" regardless they should be present in any hatch anyway for large loads.
expanding foam? put the box where you want and foam around it =) worked for a friend of a friend of a friend in there mitsi colt....err....no!:nono: if its annoying you, its a sign to do things properly! rebuild the box, or, strap it down, if the cargo straps arent long enough, get some other strapping and make it work. things are best done right the first time, rather then loosing your head the second time around
Something tells me Simon was just waiting for a reason to post up his setup =.= Haha, just havin' a go Si
I rarely post it,,I got sick of people asking me to make it for them and tekky claiming it was his design lol yeah, its all held in by velcro and static Tom
Hey Si... wanna make it for me? Pfft, be a real man and use duct/double sided tape! I'd be impressed if my box could make it through from the parcel shelf to my cabin to do any damage to me
Hmmm, I cant vividly remember how you creamed yourself after you saw my boost install, Then low and behold yours appeared and its been your design ever since Come and get the plenum ya poof ( bring money )
