Another top day at Lakeside, this time I was not the only 300zx. ZToy brought his car, first time at Lakeside and first time back on a track since writing his last one off. This guy can really drive, first time at Lakeside and he posts a 67sec lap on road tyres AND he got to drive the car home. Looking forward to seeing what times he gets with experience on this track. Easily got five sessions in, despite a couple cars crashing and a fire in another.
It was a great day and what a fantastic track. I think there is a lot to learn from this track. Just to correct you Martin, this was my first time at Lakeside but not the first time on the track since the crash. I have run QR since then. The track is a hungry beast. It likes to eat cars for breakfast. It had a celica catch on fire, an EL falcon come off in the carousel and a Excell kiss the wall. All of this within the first hour. First run was slow just getting used to the track. Second run was 1 second faster and consistant times of 1.10. I was getting thrown around the track a bit as its quite bumpy in places so I softened the dampening setting on the coilovers and by the 4th run i was down to 1.07sec. The NA diff is a big winner out here. I didnt need to change below 3rd and for the first time for me I was getting good use out of 5th gear. I would change into 5th halfway along the start of the straight. I have no idea what the speeds were as I didnt have time to look. Martin was proud to have done his PB for the day of 1.06sec. For an old bloke, you good some good speed there mate. I have managed to pull some pics off other websites. Most photos were of group 4 (my group) but Im sure some of group 2 (martin) will come soon. Ill post as soon as I find some mate I took the GoPro camera out but unfortunately the sound was shit so I have had to replace it with music in the clips. Martin lining up and then coming over the hill ztoy in all her glory In car videos, Runs 2,3 and 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwJ5FJLJ4Rw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etdXqb-8gCE In this last one the fire spitting s15 actually understeers off the track. He kept it off the wall thankfully. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1wVMmqsdls
Many thanks for bring up the age difference, I should be a lot faster, I've not a lot to live for now. I will be down to 1.04s next meet.
So now its been proven that this track does not eat Zs, let's have more of you out there. There is no pressure you just drive to you and your cars capability. Its great fun, not much time to sit around by the time you have come in, got your lap times, its your groups time to go out again. There are people out there driving Hyundai Excels, so you cant be embarrassed. Quite a few lady drivers as well. Its a great day
