Fellow 'Zedians', ( Long thread sorry) I would like a bit off feed back on the quality & reliability of knock sensors that are about either on Ebay or through reputable part outlets, re: Carcraze / CZP / Parts Aust, etc etc. They are only mentioned as a reference not as any form of depredation. The parts I've bought off them have been of good quality but they weren't items that I required reliable operational feedback. Now I realise that you get what you pay for in most cases but not always therefore in relation to knock sensors is there a great deal of difference from the cheaper product to the higher priced or OEM ones?:zlove: Cheers Grahame.
There's been a couple of threads here and on facebook recently about new 'aftermarket' det sensors not fixing a det code, for the labour involved in changing it just go straight to a genuine one.
Now i dont know what aftermarket sensors you are talking about in particular, but the thing is: The oem is grounded through the body itself where the bolt clamps it. Aftermarket ones may not be grounded in this manner. I know the Bosch ***006 sensor does not ground through the sensor body but through a designated pin/wire. I know this cause i just meassured the one mounted on my car cause of this thread (i dont run a oem ecu). Its only grounded through the ground wire. Not the body. you may have noticed only one wire goes from the stock ecu to the stock sensor...
I've been looking on Ebay for Genuine Nissan 300zx TT Knock sensors & they range from $60 -$140 for what THEY say is genuine Nissan K/S. What I need is the OEM part no?. I can't seem to find it in the tech section. I may just have to by pass it as I can't afford the ridiculous high end asking price. Anything over $90-100 forget it. I know you get what you pay for but supply & demand has become a bit over the top. Is it any wonder people settle for the lesser quality product. It's b/st.
Yes I looked at them. $98.00-USD if it was AUD$ it would be an acceptable price but not the way the exchange rate is at the moment.
Are you planning to change yours? Have you checked out what's involved? It's not a small job -is your sensor faulty to begin with?
I haven't reassembled it yet Rob & yes it is faulty & has been for quite some time & was deleted / bypassed by 'Spiro' at Autotech some years ago so I thought that while I have it apart at the moment I'd replace it. Also I do know what's involved.
