    Quick update.

Not much in the way of new parts, all I really got to show is my centre muffler, which I won't need for ages anyway

As half my HLA's are full of air and won't pump up like normal lifters with just running the car I have to remove them. Nissan in their infinite wisdom thought it would be a good idea to use cap screws with T30 Torx heads  They also do them up really tight.

I got a 3/8" drive T30 bit from Repco and used my breaker bar. Snapped the bit in half

I got another bit, cheapo. Breaker bar again, but felt it start to twist so I stopped

Bought a rattle gun from Supercheap for $100 (which I am most impressed with, 400NM of torque ) chucked the cheap bit in and undid the first bolt! So happy, tried the next one and snapped it

It snapped cleanly and I could still use it, undid another two, then stripped a bolt out

Had another one so used that, and snapped it  Continued on and stripped out another bolt

I then cut a groove through the head so I could use an old school impact driver, the type you hit with a hammer. Did nothing. Then cut two sides off the round head so I could get vicegrips on. They wouldn't grip.

Any ideas? Can I just cut the head off and undo the studs? Sounds a bit dodgy I know, but still.

As for replacement bolts SR20 bolts will drop straight in, so I will have to order 2 sets. And the best thing, they have hex heads like every other cam cap bolt in the world

A few of the fitter at work have them too, I might pinch one off them on Monday. Less of a drive :p

Any ideas on the stripped out ones?

sounds good Chrispy make sure its a 1/4 drive tho .
stripped out ones would have me pullin my hair out ?
Try filing the edges flat as u have done but use locking pliers on them .
    Why are they so tight?
    Have u used heat?
U did give them a good tap with a hammer first eh?

The ones I've been using are 3/8" with a reducer to 1/2" to suit the rattle gun. Don't know why they are so tight, and NFI why they didn't use hex heads

Haven't bothered with heat, but each time I give the head a good tap with a smalle ball pein and again tap the torx bit in too. Cleaned the head out a bit beforehand too.

those pliers you have that like.. ummm you adjust them to a size then you close them hard and they like hold stuff.. and there is a lever to release them..

haha, it doesn't even make sense that you would assume they would be called "hammer" pliers. Wheres the hammer action? Vice grips are what you will find they are called if you need to buy another pair

I'd try a percussion screwdriver with a quality bit. If that fails them maybe drill it and use an E-Z out

    Quick update...

Fancy new oil cooler. About 2" thick and 19 row, also comes with AN fittings already welded on!

5 Speed gearbox I picked up for the right price. Might try my hand at rebuilding, can't be that hard (famous last words) Tech article maybe ;)

And as the future King of the Bogans I need a suitable place to hold my court :p

It's half done and is a MONSTROSITY! And yes I got the slab reinforced for a hoist ;)

    I love it :zlove:

    My new favourite tool!

Grips the head of the bolt and digs in more when you turn. Gotta love sockets you can use with a hammer :p

What it does to the screw...

    shed needs a second story

I'm just about to pull the V8 out of the halfcut, spent today undoing the loom, water hoses and taking off the plenum (the plenum was a mission and a half)

Funny your should say that, it will be going in later down the track :p

Yes getting the plenums off these is a nightmare, much easier when you can walk around the engine on the stand though.

Off a member called WeaponZX, don't know where he got it from. Looks quite generic though.

Only about $50 for a set of 5 sizes.
