    Its on another forum, OCAU.

Pretty extensive build up, lots of home made fab work. The blokes a genius with his designs.

Wash the thing too! like come on.

Well I didn't get to drive it out today... :(

All it needs is the radiator in and the driveshaft bolts nipped up.

Got it started though :D A bit quieter with the extractors on compared to just open heads. No leaks from all the lines, 60psi cold idle oil pressure so I'm pretty happy with that :) Confirmed on the gauge and the Accusump. Oil capacity is WAAAAYYY more than I was expecting, it's nudging 6L with the accusump and all the oil cooler lines full  Timing is out as is the fuel pressure, but it idles pretty nice.

Clutch may cause some dramas though. Only get a bit of travel in the slave  Piccies and whatnot up tomorrow night.

Time to get ready for the Chardy Shack!

    Well it's certainly getting there....

Clutch master cylinder adapter is made and installed with help from Eric, even though his Mill was too soft to machine out a bit of steel :p Die grinder to the rescue! I reused the standard hardline with a little bit of bending. The clutch system is causing me issues though, more on that later...

Here is the extension for the clutch rod thing. Coupling nut and a bit of threaded rod, a whole $2.05 from the bolt shop, and I got a whole meter of rod :p It's M8 for anyone who is interested. The crossmember isn't spaced at the moment either, so as long as the intake piping fits then I won't space it down.

Installed the radiator, electric pump, all the lines etc. Took 12L of coolant  The plastic bung in the bottom of the radiator weeps a little though. I've put on some thread tape and cleaned the surface where the o-ring seats but there is still a little bit of coolant getting out.

Put on a new battery terminal as mine where cracked and causing some weird low voltage issues.

Brakes are all bled with the vacuum bleeder, pedal still seems a little squishy even though I used 2 bottles of fluid. I don't think it can beat the old fashioned way... Might try the speed bleeders I have here.

With the coolant in and the fuel pressure set at 42PSI, rather than the 20PSI that the Turbosmart reg came preset at and the timing right it idles REALLY nice and starts easy. Dead on 750-800RPM firing on 8, actually quite, even with no mufflers. As soon as you touch the throttle though it's ear shattering and it revs quick and clean, with some pops and flames when you back off :D I love it :D No vids at the moment, maybe Tuesday if you all behave :p

Still not 100% sure on what I am going to do in the way of thermo fans... I don't have any of that aircon crap in the way so that should help a bit. I'm thinking two good 12" thermo's on the front and a 10" puller on the back. It'll still be nowhere near the airflow of the standard fan though. I'm keen to make some air guides up like Matt did. This is my major concern for the whole build, I don't think it will like traffic at all. Anyone had experience with water sprays onto radiators?

I got most of the zed back together, dodgied up the AFM and inlet piping as the standard one is cut up due to my experimenting and I haven't had the new ally one made yet, that's why there is a air filter where the head light should be  Pushed it outside and chucked in the drivers seat, start her up, go to put it in first and nothing :( Clutch isn't disengaging :( I'm going to try some adjusting of the master cylinder but I only have 15-20mm travel available on the release fork due to the way the clutch, gearbox and flywheel all sit. I'll hit up the Nico guys and see what they do about it... If that worked I would have got to have a little hoon around my front yard :(

Oh and for those interested in the manual steering rack conversion, it seems really light. At least half as heavy as just the normal rack with no pump but still with seals. I think it will be fine :D [TIS] Only tried on concrete and gravel though.

So I have to now sort the clutch out, hopefully just a longer rod on the master will fix it. If not I will probably have to pull the gearbox and make up a new throw out bearing carrier :( Also want to get the exhaust made up soonish so I can stop annoying everyone with the noise :D Got lots of little fiddly jobs too, wiring and tidying up and zip tieing cables in place etc. Need to go and see a man about a bonnet too...

Did a quick measure with ride height. 130mm to the chassis rails and 90mm to the bottom of the exhaust flange (so actual pipes will be above 100mm) on the drivers side, so that's 40mm more than I thought I might have had. I can still raise up the suspension a bit if required too.

Well no piccies for you tonight! Photodump is having a sook and won't give me the links for the piccies :( Maybe tomorrow...

    About cooling...

You have a lot of thermal mass there- 12L of coolant will take a lot of heat, and be a better buffer to temp fluctuations as long as your radiator is performing. I would tend towards puller fans in preference to pushers, if space allows. Need appropriate 'pull side' ducting however, which may be problematic.
Short term fix may be to make ducting to force air thru the radiator, similar to an air guide and undertray.
What about ancillary small radiator/s in the SMIC position, if not occupied by oil coolers etc?

Pullers won't fit, I have 40-50mm between the radiator and the crank pulley  For air guides I pretty much just want to block off all the ways for the air to escape, so mainly sides and bottom. Might also add a vent in the bonnet behind the radiator to let the air out. Only way to make pullers fit is to get a custom rad and fit it under the rad support, big $$ that I don't really have to spend at the moment :(

SMIC positions are taken up with oil cooler and air filter.

A decent sized and aero configured exit vent behind the radiator and immediately in front of the engine is a good idea.

If all the hardware is right then often the main problem with cooling is the lack of air exit paths after the radiator. But if this is all good then you don't need a lot in the way of radiator fans, the hot air naturally rises after moving through the radiator and heads for the strategically placed exit vent.

Haha, video camera is charging. I got one of a start and rev and that's it. Will put up later.

Adjusted the clutch a bit more and it now works perfectly :D Clutch picks up real nice too, a 5 puk brass button but it's only a bit grabbier than a organic. Very happy with that, it's a million times nicer than Ztoy's. Steering seems light enough too, haven't been on the street yet so not sure what it's like at a proper speed.

I just gave it a wash for the first time ever too :) Pretty shiny, but there are some rough bits of paint. Will get it resprayed when funds permit.

Well just went for a bit of a fang up my 'private' street  Oil pressure is a bit erratic, Accusump isn't wired up yet, so that may help. Pulls pretty hard and the engine didn't fall out :p Steering is nice too :D Bit heavy at a stop on asphalt, and terrible when going backwards, but all other times it's quite OK, and I have little girly arms :p

No vids of it on the street until it's rego'd and all that. Lots of fiddling annoying stuff to do now.

Got my S15 steering wheel today too. And some 12mm stainless bar to make exhaust hangers, just have to steal Timmy's welder and make it up now.

And here is a quick vid of it idling and a bit of a rev :D

    Awesome :D

So you have steering, gears, clutch... What is left?

LOL - pulls pretty hard for a v8 you mean? :p

Yeah, pulls hard for having no BOOOOOOSSSSSSSTT :D

All that is left is bonnet, front bar, mod plate, rego, intake, exhaust fans, air guides and about 400 hours of making little fidly brackets and tidying up wiring.
