    $500 :D

Was traded in at a car yard we deal with at work, there was no remote for the alarm & there was no water in the radiator - I assumed the engine and trans would be stuffed. (1990 NA 2+2 auto in silver 160k approx)

Had it towed to my place of work, spent a few minutes removing the alarm and gave the key a flick to see what would happen.....

It goes LOL! in fact it goes very well. The water is gone because there is a blown hose at the back of the engine, The hose COULD be blown due to a head gasket issue but the compressions all test good at around 180PSI.
So a couple more tests to do but she looks all good at this stage.

I assumed the trans would be shot but the oil looks good and so far with the very short runs I have taken it for she seems OK.

Have a fair amount of work to do over the weekend assessing the condition of it all to see what to do with it but at this stage it looks like a rebuild could be going ahead. Manual conversion, heaps of power up mods for the poor little NA, some serious attention to the body incl new doors, front bumper, rear spoiler & a paint job etc.

But hey for five hundred bucks it is cheap enough to spend a small fortune on it :)

The fifth Z32 I have owned & my twelfth car in total LOL!

hey no she aint a parts car just yet LOL!

Engine is all good, just removed all throttle warming hoses etc & EGR, put her all back together and bled up the cooling system - goes mint no sign of trouble at all.

Time for a good flush of both systems oil and water and replace the other hoses, cam belt etc.

What a great find for a project car.... looks fairly good without getting too close... I'm sure it will be fine, maybe the last owner thought it was a goner and couldnt or didnt know where to start fixing it....

Well done, looking forward to the updates.....

The paint is absolutely shot but mostly the car is straight aside from a couple of shallow dents. Thinking of cobalt green or similar, some nice 17" mags, manual conversion & just a hell tidy up.

Yeah I COULD possibly sell the mudflaps to pay for the paint LOL! but they are a good thing to have.

Well this project has had some of the bigger issues sorted out over the last little while.
Not sure where to start but here is a quick novel and some pics for ya:

After I fixed the water leak on the engine I ran some radiator flush through the system and some oil flush. This resulted in the blown head gasket showing itself up - I had a feeling that was going to happen.

Heads removed and sorted then I thought F it do it once do it right!

Engine removed and completely striped, new rings and bearings, new seals, gaskets, cam belt, tensioner, water pump, reconed oil pump etc etc etc, heads given a mild port,
manifolds tidied up inlet plenum painted, engine bay painted, manual conversion fitted, standard exh (post cats) biffed out, head lamps replaced with some better ones I had, J spec 99 front bumper purchased, third brake lamp trim ordered (removes the rear spoiler) replacement doors, boot & front RHS guard found.
The list goes on and on really but here are some pics for ya:

The exact same paint as the car is being painted in :)
I painted the engine bay black so the engine would stand out a little, still have some things to do on the motor cosmetically but she is in there and starts and runs. If I had a clutch line (getting a stainless hose made straight from the master to the slave) and the plate for the gear lever (was missing from the kit :( ) I could drive it for extremely short distances. Am waiting on new hoses for the engine to rad and heater.

Great progress, looking great. You are going to have to spray the AUX fan, can't leave it with over spray ;)

I have a black engine bay too, good move. I think it looks better than body colour, and also easier to hide wiring/loom/hoses in a black bay :)

No not unless you seriously overheat the engine to the point where it would be destroyed anyway LOL!

    awesome thread.

A great testiment to the alternative method of Zed ownership.

Buy cheeeeeeeeeep and spend the diference fixing vs buying Expensive...which will resulting in needing to fixx as well anyway...coz its a car lolz.

I think you took the most sensible option. And awesome work.

Are you doing all this work yourself?

Yip buying the cheap one is sometimes a good idea although to be honest this one is a little on the extreme side of things LOL!
Yes doing it all myself, it simply wouldn't be worth the money otherwise.

(thanks by the way :) )
